What is the maximum you would pay for a bay?

    As knowledgeable owners?

Personally I wouldn't pay much more than £6k if I am honest. I would rather buy something I know needs work and I can get done to my satisfaction rather than buying a more expensive van that may still need lots of work. I know other people will pay more for the right van and don't want or can't do the work themselves, but how much would you pay?

Similar really, I'd only buy doer uppers but I have recently seen the benefits of a California import for lack of welding needed!

  3. 2k is my limit...although I did stretch to 2.3k once..(but that was special)

I do think of what else can I buy for under 2k and there is a lot more choice..

  4. I agree, especially when buying from the U.S. I've found that the level of restoration isn't always that great so I'd rather do it my self

£10,000 would be my limit for a perfectly sorted van and engine. The interior wouldn't matter as I would want to do it my way anyway.

£4k has been my limit so far.

£8k for a solid LHD import with good solid engine, no interior and needing paint.
£10k for the same in RHD.

£7k for a good pick up or doka.

I think £7-8. That's the most I would be able to pay whatever the condition.

My best was 2 days work for a T25 :). I did have to pay for tow truck back from Spain tho.

  10. My Westy was £1,800 3 years ago. I'd buy a cali after this and go no more than £3k for the right one. No interior would be fine and no doubt it would have no engine to make importing easier. I'd want to scooby it.

  11. I would pay as much as I can afford.

I have little to no experience in restoring cars/vans, so I will pay a premium for a van that has only minor issues.

  12. I am trying to find a good one for a friend of mine and he asked me to go and look at one 125 miles away and top dollor, over £18.000, what a waste of time. Found lots of filler, paint runs, strange numbers on M plate (and not repeated on body stamps) hand painted wheels, ill fitting new floor etc. We walked away. A dealer on a farm and had a few others in barns and one a original 78 westy berlin that I thought needed a lot of work, that was £20,000!!! Have seen many others on sites (mostly green) and over £20.000, now increasing my insurance valuation (fingers crossed). Anyone know of a good blue one for sale in Essex.

  13. Thing is if I knew it was really solid with a good engine I would pay up to £15 K I reckon, about what I've spent to get my devon right plus without the hassle

I'd pay what I thought it was worth.
A £6k heap that's been badly welded wont be worth anywhere as much as a non-welded £12k base bus later on.

  15. paid 7k for mine. Sold the awning and other bits it came with so it owes me 6.5k on the purchase price and that was about as much as I was able to afford, and probably as much as id want to pay for a 40 year old pile of carp lol course I've probably spent almost the same again on bits for it but i don't count that hahaha

  16. I paid £4300 for mine with a years mot. Spent quite a lot on it but that's through the choice . (Lowering , wheels and other mods)

  17. I've got a half decent yellow one for sale in Oxford.

Id base the amount I would spend on two factors,

    1. What condition the bus was in, amount of MOT, engine condition, tyres etc

    2. What are similar buses selling for.

When we bought the westy, we paid £10k fully MOT'd, it needed new brake hoses and a good service. An identical spec westy sold on here for £12k which was in need of far more bodywork carrying out than ours does now!
