Who said the raising of Stonehenge? That was a good one. Roswell was good too. I should drive through there some day.
There is actually an old cemetery not far from me that has a sign stating an alien is buried in it. The sign is hundreds of years old. It looks just like any Old West cemetery you'd see in a John Wayne film. :dust: Spooky? Hokey? You decide. Meanwhile, I've hijacked my own thread.
Why, for the love of God, do people want to witness the battle at Normandy Beach? Yick! Just get a box of green plastic army guys and a handful of ketchup packets. Toss in blender, press puree'. Close enough. Brrrrr.

What were some historical mysteries we could solve by having been there? (Not Normandy, I've moved on)

Opening day at the shiny new Flavian Amphitheater. (later known as The Roman Colosseum) An all day event of gladiator contests and battle reenactments.
When things get too gory for me I would just study the spectators like Jane Goodall, enrapt by a culture's careless fascination with cruel and inhuman entertainment. Did they gasp in horror? Did they laugh wickedly?
Then afterward, off to a great buffet where I eat until I nearly burst. Then excuse myself to the vomitorium to gag on a peacock feather.
What was vomitorium etiquette like? Was it like being at a bank of urinals, where you avoid eye contact and do not speak to one another? Or was it like,"Say, Buddy. You try the veal? *HORK* Why there's some now. I swear it was so good I'm tempted to eat it again. Fwa-fwa-fwa." ?
Did everybody always get a fresh feather?
Just how was the veal, really?

 

I would like to have been shopping in Burbank California on 27 June 1968. There was a TV stage production about to start and at the last minute there was one big panic. The producers had forgotten to get an audience together. So, the production team went on out to the streets to gather a few hundred folk together. Then the performance started. It was Elvis Presley's 1968 Comeback concert (it wasn't billed like that at the time because he thought it was going to be a flop - but turned out to be one of the most spectacular comebacks of all time). If you ever get to see it, watch the look of the audience faces when Elvis walks on stage dressed in the now famous black leather suit. Most of the audience were just out for an afternoon's shopping a few moments earlier. They couldn't believe what they were witnessing.

i love music and i have thought about what musical event i would have loved to have seen, woodstock, 1st glasto etc etc

but the one event I would have loved to have witnessed is when johnny cash played folsom prison - January 13, 1968
