If you have any ideas how to fix the auto on my Dansette, then I can stop being grumpy about the Bush RP60 that I'd agreed to buy and collect from Eastleigh on Monday, and the bloke messaged to say he'd sold it to someone else instead (he was soooo sorry. grrrr). Then I can stop trying to cheer myself up by looking at more costly RP50s on eBay. ( I hate FB marketplace, no one has any honour or decency anymore!)
What bit of "auto" doesn't work? Likely to be something purely mechanical. Could lift the turntable off and have a squint for anything that may have dropped off. Don't go poking when it's turned on, as these things are pretty cheaply made and are likely to have a live chassis. Don't want to light up like a christmas tree! The electronics is pretty easy to fix. Getting a replacement cartridge that doesn't shave your LPs likely to be more difficult.
I have been inspired now to lift the turntable off and have a poke. Nothing appears to have dropped off, but I've fiddled and furkled and lubricated. It used to work... https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLWMxaikYnXwMIW0-JMKWntyr_38ARvKzR&si=9k0mZdsv4-i4UeMn
Well, there's your mistake. Always lubricate before furkling, or indeed, fiddling. Does the turntable actually go round when you turn it on? If it does, all the rest of the 500 levers and things should do their thing.
It might be working now..... I don't know what I did, but it may have worked! (I'm now on a bus after an afternoon beer festival, so my recollection of my exact turntable fixing procedure may be slightly impaired, and possible not reliable!)
By now on a lot of CD players the laser is well on it's way out, and the tray loader drive belt is stretched.. And the first generation silver on glass CDs will be tarnished to unplayable. Unlike shellac and vinyl discs.
An odd one, but I couldn't resist: a Commodore SR-4148 calculator. My old one saw me through Uni and many years after. A sentimental purchase, even tho' PCalc on my iPhone could calculate the pants off it. I suspect it'll need new NiCads.
I ordered a pair of front fork bike bags for bike packing, to distribute the weight a bit more evenly on my push bike. Ain’t got here yet…
Gah! Just tried 5318008 on PCalc, and the wag that wrote it puts "Censored!" on the display when you turn the phone upside down In my day, we had to make our own entertainment...
