just front seat wheel arch rubber mats. What a load of dog shat. Feel like i have completely ruined them. They dont fit very well do they lol. Oh well. Only a bit of rubber.

also collected car from MOT which it failed so went and collected the parts required so i can fix it tonight, beam will have to wait.....

 

How did you go about fitting them? I bought a pair of aftermarket mats (same quality whoever you buy them from) and found that they can be made to fit, but you need to remove the utterly crap foam scrim (wire brush and acetone) and replace it with some closed cell foam. The beading on the edges can also be trimmed back or removed altogether if necessary, then the rubber can be stretched/shaped to fit. You're right though, they're not the best fitting piece of kit off the peg

unless they have theirs made on a different press, all the aftermarket ones I've seen are pretty shonky, compared to originals

my main concern, aside from the fit, is the type of foam they use on the underside. Open cell stuff is essentially a sponge....not really what you want in an area prone to trapping water...

You're now going to tell me you bought new door seals and they don't leak whatsoever....

sorry wasnt meant to sound like a boast, was just saying that if you get the wolfsburg west ones they fit really well. (well they did to mine!!)

 

I ended cutting it almost in half so the back edge met the back edge of the tub. You can't see the cut but It feels a bit of a savage thing to have done.

Went to the boy's nativity and then did a CrossFit session. Then I've had dinner and sat and surfed the net.

 

the problem I've come across is the pressing doesn't conform to the shape of the wheel tub, so some areas fit perfectly, but not all round. Plus, if you assume the uncut 'cut out' is accurate before trial fitting, you'd be miles out...

 

I know. I have only temporarily fitted them as I have to take the seats off again to re cover soon and thought I would like to wait until after that to glue them down.

 

if only someone did some heat shrinkable rubber matting....
