I'm looking to rebuild my engine sometime soon, but what performance might I get if it's back to as new stock specs? I really only want it to be able to drive reliably at motorway speeds without thrashing it to death in a couple of years, and it would be good if I could still get at least 22.5 mpg as at present. Is this possible or will it take a more advanced rebuild?
you lot A stock motor won't be a speed demon, but you should easily pull 80mph!! If you're going to do 70mph on the motorway, then I would suggest an external oil cooler through a thermostatic sandwich plate
After a long day at work on Tuesday I did a 30 mile journey M6 m58 at a steady 70-80 outside lane most of the way. 2.0 FI. Mines not new but top end rebuilt by myself with the original parts 18 months ago. I am getting 25-28mpg generally running round (not on Tuesday though)
