It's supposed to take our mind off the fact that the MP's are the most effective crooks in the UK.

Let them all in .we was all one big land mass omce upon a time .
There will be one or to bad folk but there will be a lot more genuine folk that just want to work for a living

  4. Good Luck to them....it makes you wonder how bad things must be where they live, to up-sticks and come to a completely new country with little or no knowledge of their future prospects...put yourself in their shoes:(

As for those intent on coming to Britain simply to take advantage of the benefits on offer, I'd rather not pass judgement...you don't have to look too far to find plenty of 'home-grown' examples...

  5. As for The Sun newspaper....it doesn't even make for good toilet paper

  8. My sister lived in Tirgumures (Transylvania) for 12 years....in order to buy land and build property you have to pay all manner of back-handers to local 'officials'. She reckons corruption is endemic, especially at local government and administrative level...the police too are on the take. Think I told you about the time she was driving thru Hungary and got stopped by the police.....charged her the equivalent of £30 spot fine for driving during the day without headlights...an hour or so later, she got pulled again for driving with her lights on...argued the toss but they wouldn't let her go without paying another £20....she was a young woman in her mid-thirties travelling with three children all under the age of 6...c*s....no wonder the population is cynical

  9. The E U policy of free movement has done a lot of social fabric damage, not just to us but Germany and France, main architects of the policy are feeling changes too.
I cannot see how thieves and criminals from E U countries are allowed to turn up at ports and we seem to have little or no say in denying them entrance.
I have nothing against controlled immigration, come here, have a job pay your tax and respect the laws customs and religion of this country.
Uncontrolled immigration allows beggars and vagrants to live on the streets on roundabouts and in garden sheds, exploitation is ripe because of this open door policy.
Do you have a job No, do you have a checkable address where you live No, then come back when you do

    Love the totally unbiased reporting
" Among those eager to cross our new open borders were a convicted thief and his “apprentice” son — plus others who claimed they were bent on stealing scrap metal and raking in benefits."

  11. They'll have trouble doing any of those things Don, all the nickable scraps been nicked all the easy break in's have been broken into, and all the benefits....... Well they can have them for the trouble of popping over, because we'll give that to anybody and then dare them to be able to live on it

You're not wrong, but...and this isn't aimed even slightly at you Woody... the days when all that so-called "working class" people had to do to live was turn up, take no responsibilty for anything and "earn" a living wage are long gone.

If you have no skills you have nothing to loose by acquiring some. Or bullMarmite your way through life, it's worked for me - I should have had 2 degrees to do my last job, but have only a couple of o-levels an an abandoned apprenticeship. I'm fed up with hearing it's all someone elses fault because "there aren't any jobs". If there is no work make some for yourself. I've been on bread and water after a total career change but it's coming good now.

Or leave for a better future? it's not just Eastern Europeans who do this. If things are really so god-awful here at least as a UK national one has the chance to start a better life elsewhere, working class or not. Look at Lost-en-france for example - determination is all you need and if you don't have that, it's not someone elses fault. 150,000 Brits left the UK last year hoping for a better life living and working abroad. I'm grateful that these opportunities exist and even though I'm unlikely to do so myself, my eldest is odds on to leave the UK for good at some point.

Closed borders are a bad thing, what we in the UK lack as a whole is fight.

  13. Personally I believe that the government should concentrate there efforts more on the elderly.
Look after the elderly that are struggling on the measely pension being given to them.
Respect the people that have PAID INTO the system and then, IF there is a surplus
give a hand out to our new "Neighbours":mad:

  14. Tell him to start learning Danish.....it's the future:thumbsup:

  15. I quite like this idea

  16. While i agree with your sentiment regards helping the elderly, i don't think it's as simple as reallocating funds from one sector of the population to another...(although they've been doing this from poor to rich with considerable success for centuries) As a member of the EU, Britain has a statutory duty to allow entry into the country for those seeking gainful employment (and other criteria). Whether we should remain in the EU is another argument all together.
But what about those British nationals who, for one reason or another, haven't 'paid into the system'....those net- takers? Do we disregard them as well?

  17. Disagree....closing tax avoidance loop holes, reducing house prices to a realistic level, slashing the defence budget and establishing an effective Income Equality policy for all sectors, will more than offset any costs to the Health Service accrued by 'migrants and foreigners' IMO

  18. Fair point
My point which I did not make clear was, OAP's should not have to be scrimping and scraping on the pensions they receive.
Maybe the Government should address this !, then allocate the remainder ;)

Bad luck pensioners, there are simply too many to support and there are going to be more. There are simply put, too few tax payers in this country supporting to many "net takers" and too many government hair-brained money wasting opportunities starting with the most obvious - un-called for and pointless military action.

Back to the rest of us...
Unless you are in a position where you employ other people you are a mere tadpole on the pond. The pond used to be the UK, now it's the world. And it's a tadpole eat tadpole world. My advice to anyone bemoaoning either their prospects or their surroundings is wake up, smell the coffee and do something about it. Personally, I don't expect someone else to provide me a living on a plate for nothing more than offering up my dumb carcass for 8 hours a day and if that's as high as some set their sights, that's their conscious descision and quite possibly welcome to the world of the minimum wage or a life on benefits.

I've spent the last 30 years constantly educating myself on a need to know basis. If I was asked to come up with a lightning protection scheme to insulate the power supply to installation under a high voltage pylon, I shat a brick and stayed up late for weeks until I understood all the implications and had some ideas to throw into the pot. Over the years I've taught myself a hell of a lot of stuff and in my own time too in order to earn a decent living. The days of following a magical path to an easy life are all but gone.
