  1. Another vote for a Mk 4 Golf, although petrol. Spat a few sensors out over the years, but otherwise fine.

  3. Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDI. I had it from new and drove it for 242,000 miles without any problems at all. It was still going like a train and doing 60mpg when I finally let it go. I didn't even change the clutch in all that time...

  4. I had an on going stable of cheapo Datsuns in the '80s/early '90s which I ran into the ground , never changed the oil in any of them but when one failed it's MOT (usually rust...) I just picked up another for 50 quid . Bullet proof buzzy little engines .
Out and out bargain-ous yet 100% spot on and marked the end of my Datsun days was an Opal Rekord Berlina - 37k - 5 years old , auto and plush beyond my wildest dreams ...
Bloke over the road wanted to px it but the dealer only offered him 40 quid, he offered it to me for 50 with a years ticket and that was it . 125,000 miles of neglect and 8 years later it was still going strong until some cock in a transit pulled out of a side street , thing is , it was built like bloody tank and took the damage well but the insurance wrote it off - I was gutted but got enough to buy a decent Manta so all ended well ...

Cracking motor - I keep looking but hav'nt seen another .
    Bloody rose tinted glasses ....

MK1 C Max 1.6 TDCi ... Bought with 136k on the clock, sold with 255k on the clock ... Not quite as flexible as an mpv as the Scenic that it was a "copy" of but refused to break

  7. Easily my last Mk7 Transit. I bought it with 26k on the clock. When it finally expired it had done approximately 176k. In that time it only failed to start once, and that was in the beast from the east, when the original battery finally died after eight years. Apart from that I never spent anything on it apart from basic MOT / Maintenance stuff. Original clutch etc. Having said that the bodywork was starting to show its age at the time of its spectacular engine failure so I think if I’d kept it I’d probably have been in for an expensive MOT.

I know on here we are ‘supposed’ to favour T5/T6 but for modern commercial vehicles I don’t think you can beat a Ford. Apart from one of my mates who is still clinging on as he retires next year, every other one of my mates have ditched their T5 and gone over to Transit Customs. Partly because their second hand price has become daft due to people buying them to convert to campers, making them uneconomic to use as a builders van.

    We had one. Bloody nightmare:
Something wrong with cooling system. Needed a new head.
Mate reversed into it but wouldn't admit to it.
    Wife filled it with diesel.
Rusted to bits before anything else went wrong.

    Yeah.
Gotta say, I like my mk7 Transit. More like a big car. I liked my banana engine mk5 more, though, tbh. Less electrickery on it.

  11. X reg fiat seicento sporting, inherited it off my mother, ran it up and down the M4 carrying everything needed for a house renovation, sometimes with extension ladders on the roof. Must have done 50 trips to the tip full of rubble sacks as well. Never had it serviced and only spent out on an alternator. It even survived being squashed against a garage ceiling during an MOT when it was lifted with the rear hatch open.

Renault4 TL and the beast GTL. Still would have one as a daily driver. Sold my last one an old English white with sun roof to an army sergeant who took her to Isle of Wight about 10 years ago…..biggest car sale regret I’ve ever had :(
