What’s the most reliable car you’ve ever owed.

  1. Including low maintenance etc

I saw a 80s Honda Civic . Today . Brought back a memory. My sister drove one. Over 10 years without one problem. Back in The day . Same as this one

We nicknamed it the turd ... brown everything option ...

  2. I bought a 1986 Honda Civic hatch back.
    Got it new.

    Brilliant car.
    No issues at all
Sold it to a mate after about 4 years and he kept it another 10

Now the Chrysler/Mitsubishi Sigma my future wife had bought new when I first met her…..

Maybe I should start a thread “the biggest heap of rubbish you have driven”

Mk4 Golf TDi. A few things wore out, like they do over 10 years.

96 Polo 16v - had that for 10 years. Regular servicing and maintenance and took it from about 90k through to 150k. The heater matrix had a leak when I chopped it in for a Mazda that blew a head gasket within 3 months.

our mk5 golf GTi is currently challenging the Polo, but it has needed a few more bits fixing in its lifetime

  6. Probably a Ford Ka we bought at a year old with 6000 miles on the clock. We sold it 6 years later at around 80000 miles and apart from wear and tear items like tyres and front pads it cost us literally nothing in extra repairs:thumbsup:

Toyota Rav 4 did nearly 100,000 miles in it and never had a issue sold it with 120,00 miles

Most unreliable was a Alfa 156 sports wagon but it was nice

    Subaru Forester.

  9. 1968 MGB GT. Bought it for around £1000 in 1985, ran it as an everyday 'survivor' until 1989, including several trips to Ireland. Engine was getting a bit rattly and started getting too scabby.
I stripped and restored it completely, bodily and mechanically, and continued to use it until 1994.
    A very reliable car.

2007 1.7 diesel Astra car . Never one problem with it .Did 120 thou miles in it no issues , then my son ended up with it he did another 130 thou in it ...only work done to was cleaning up carbon build up in the manifold . But that was no real expense . He traded it in on another car and got a good price for it by the dealer .

TBH all my buses over 25 years have been completely reliable.
So was my Volvo 245 and my Austin 1800.
All of my cars really, never even needed a new clutch.

  13. My most reliable cars have been bikes :D

Always Japanese never British or German in my experience. I had a Mitsubishi Galant that was absolutely spot on For years and recently a 12 year old note we’ve had from new that has over 110k on the clock and is still so good I kept it when we bought a newer car.

  16. A J reg Cavalier 1.6 that I bought off my Brother-in-law in 1993 - it was his company car that he had done 72k miles in after 2 years. I kept for 5 years and went to South of France with 4 of us in it . I then passed it on to my older son who used it for a few years and it was then passed on to another of my brothers-in-law and he ran it into the ground after another few years. It had covered 175k on the same clutch and engine with no major repairs - just the body fell to bits after nearly 20 years.
My current car is a 12 reg Mondeo 1.6cdti- not had any problems so far.

I think our 52 registered Peugeot 307 2.0HDI 3 door has never let us down since we bought it in 2003. Galvanised body. Less electronics. No faffy emissions control kit at all. Just coming up to 95k miles. The 04 registered 307SW we bought in 2006 has done 140k miles, never had to be towed home, but did run out of fuel cornering hard with 1/3 of a tank of diesel on the gauge when the spring loaded fuel pickup jammed in mid-air. It restarted with a lot of cranking to get the air out.. Rust a bit more of an issue there.
Basically apart from buying the bus in 2010, we havent bought a car since 2006, or needed the AA except for the bus.

  19. another Astra vote 1.7 TDI astra, my mum had it brand new gave it to me with around 100k on it. I took it to 150k then sold it to a mate for next to nothing he run at to almost 200k and 15 years old. 1 oil pump failure cost £500 (happened a week after the cambelt was replaced I should have had this replaced at the same time arghh) and wiper motor.

Mk 4 GT TDI. Was on 250000 when I sold it, still on its original turbo and still flew.

The mk5 I replaced it with, needed a new turbo at 150000, then the entire aircon system, then the fan, window regulators, rear callipers, etc etc
