So I was wondering if either there's a parts code list somewhere, or if the helpful and ever knowledgeable collective brain of TLB can help me with my part code quandary.......

Whilst my Type 1 AD code Twin port engine is out, I want to sort out the heat exchangers so that I don't die prematurely of exhaust fumes in the cab over winter.
As such I've got new exchangers (I know they're not as good but I think the ones on there at the moment are also repros, so it certainly won't be any worse.... and less CO!) new cables etc, but I'm struggling with the concertina muffler part as, apart from most places being put of stock, mine measure 400mm from end to end. All the ones listed anywhere that look the same are 340mm.
The part code on my current ones seems to be 113255357L which is different than anything listed .
    So what have I got?
And what do I need please?

Ah okay, I'll have a butchers when I get home from work. Any thoughts on the length issue? According to Coolairvw theirs are 375mm total length, with a parts code number 211255387A

Don't buy JK ones. There was a thread on here years ago that may have been the final demise of JoshJK!

  5. I bought GSF ones or Veewee. Same difference. Fitted ok. Type 4 though. Not sure if different

    Ha ha oh dear!

To be honest, actually finding a pair at the moment is a rarity, everyone is out of stock of the ones that it should be (ie correct for a type 1) with 60mm diameter ends. Coolairvw are the only place.... although I didn't look at veewee to be fair. My old ones are crumbly so I'd like to get em replaced if poss.....
I'm intrigued by the JK saga now though ;)

Now why doesn't that surprise me?! I'll have a look for a better part number and see what you think. Thank you.
I'm just intrigued by the length issue (it's probably got the wrong heat exchangers too and been cobbled together somehow....!) hopefully it'll all come together with new parts from exhaust forwards!

I seem to remember when I removed mine that they can be lengthened / shortened by almost screwing one half inside the other?

    Yup, to an
    Extent

  14. What's the matter with your old concertinas?

If you're getting fumes in the cab, it's more likely to be oil leak fumes being sucked through the heating, rather than CO. It'll still be there after you've fitted all the new stuff ;)

  15. Yours look fine - i`d change the heat exchangers and see how things are . You can always change the concertinas later if needed , they just pop off , you don`t have to take off the heat exchangers ...

    Just a thought ..

The old concertinas are just old and a bit crispy and I thought it would be good to do stuff in one hit, but if they're easy enough to replace in situ then I'm happy to wait and see how the new heat exchangers pan out.

Sadly it is CO in exhaust fumes getting through the heating system though, rather than just the smell of oil leaking - having the heater vents open will set off my carbon monoxide alarm and give me a nice digital CO concentration read out! Not great really, so time to do something about it.

Having decided to leave the old ones for a while and see how things go with just replacing the heat exchangers, I did get back underneath and have another look for future reference. The part number is the same on both ends - but it's a different one each concertina.
    The left one is 113255357L
and the right one is 113255358D
    so there you go!
Any thoughts oh great master of the parts? ;)
(they can't surely be 'handed' can they??)

Edit: actually scrub that edit. I think they're original.

Despite the aspersions of doom and gloom the JK concertinas solve the problem of being different lengths by having one end unscrew - the concertina bit is a screw thread and so you can change the length by rotating one end relative to the other.Which is a godsend if you are trying to fit them on a cold day when the plastic is rock hard.
