Made exclusively for JK. These ones.
    http://www.justkampers.com/vw-t2-ba...cting/113-255-355-heater-tube-bundle-kit.html

Fitted to a T4 engine so they are a fair way from the heat exchangers. They have a plastic thicker collar in one end and a heat resistant looking thickener in the other. Fitted "right way round" as far as I can see. Quite a squeeze to get them in, and now they're expanding as the end against the control pods melts and flares out. The bus has only done 20-30 miles and sat ticking over a bit.

Anyone else had this problem? I'll send them back, but what a waste of time. Good price, but utter c r a p.

And made exclusively for JK, like that's good? It's going to teach me not to buy anything made exclusively for JK as they haven't specced them properly and I can only conclude that they don't know what they're doing..

Got a pair of crusty old VW originals on mine which are possibly 45 years old, they flex, they fit and they don't melt.

Which is ridiculous. The heat is from aftermarket exchangers as well, I wonder what'd happen if fitted to original high output ones.

  5. Have you got the steel collars in them?

Perhaps they'll also reimburse me for the time fitting them, taking them off and packing time as well as the post.

Of course. They're quite tricky to fit without the collars getting shoved up the pipe, but I have the technique off pat. Please don't ask who pat is, I'm cross. :D

    Wow, that's pretty serious
I assume you've contacted our customer service team about these?
They'll undoubtedly want either photos or the product back so we can see what's gone on with them, as clearly something isn't right. Once we've got either the products or the photos back I'll make sure all the relevant people here at JK HQ take a look.

I've just had a quick look through our sales and returns history on this product and while I know it's been said before, this really isn't a product that we get returns or issues with, and I've certainly never heard of them melting before, so if you haven't already sent one then we'd really appreciate an email to our customer service team with details about the engine they were fitted to etc we'll do our best to get to the bottom of it as soon as we can.

Thanks Zed, and sorry for the hassle you've had with these parts

Had a chat with Shaun today while ordering a battery tray Josh.
I get the hump about specific things I'll admit, but I still think you guys are ok in the round.
Forgot my camera, but I'm going to send him a pic tomorrow evening.
I was pretty miffed when I posted as I've sent a few customers off with these before and I don't like to think they're all inhaling melting plastic fumes...
T4 engine so they're on the pods, quite a way from the HX's.

T1 not T4 but adding a comment that might help ..I fought mine four times before realising :twist the engine end of the JK plastic concertina tubes to adjust the length to make it easier to fit them. Also warming them before fittjng helps. Some instructions might help .

  11. Ive had JK ones on mine for a few years. were fine when first fitted but the heat tailed off. The inside "baffle" was made from a plastic lattice that had melted and blocked the tube. I did a temporary job and used some ally pipe inside instead of the plastic (just a continuous pipe. They were ok for but when I fixed my heat exchangers and had my first proper drive in it after about 30 miles there was smoke coming out of the vents. I thought it was the exchangers but turns out its the packing in the tube (the stuff that looks like fibreglass) Ive taken em off and I will re-use them but pack them with somthing else.

When I got mine I didnt get any collars with them, eventually bought the grey sleeves to fill the gaps at the ends.

JK may well be having them manufactured using better materials now but I believe the inside bit melting was common. Ive not complained to JK and Im just commenting on the thread but these arent really fit for the job but if your exchangers arent chucking that much heat out they will only slowly deteriorate. If youve got genuine xchangers and they are working correctly then you may struggle.

Thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate the information you've supplied

Hopefully Shaun sorted everything out for you Zed, but he'll probably be pretty busy getting everything ready for Stanford Hall over the next few days, so if you need anything else just let me know

If you (or anyone else) get's anything like in future do just let us know, Dicky :)

We'd never sell a rubbish part on purpose, but if we don't know that customers are having problems with them then we can't fix the problem, so always best to just give us a quick call or drop us an email so we can sort out your problem and stop anyone else having the same problem :)

    Thanks again
    Josh

    Whoa.
Thanks for the photos, jivedubbin, they're pretty shocking

I'll pass these on to the relevant people here at JK now, but if you could let us know some more information about when you bought them, what they were fitted to, how long they lasted etc then we'll see what we can do to get the problem fixed ASAP.

If it's easier you can always email me directly at josh.reynolds@justkampers.co.uk

    Thanks
    Josh
