Have I missed something but why cant electric cars recharge themselves via a 'alternator' driven from the main motor when in use?
Some can but really your just using the engine as a inefficient generator. You also have to remember electric cars can be up to 400v
That's it, cheaper just to stick an electric motor in your old bus ...and still have more credibility than the new one .
I'll admit it did fleetingly cross my mind before embarking on the current engine rebuild. It probably wouldn't cost that much more to convert than rebuild. One day in the future they will not allow fossil fuel engines and we'll all have to convert our vans to the latest flying car specs
Personally I want to see the cynical hybrid being built by somebody I know. An old Landrover with a V12 engine and a reasonably big electrical propulsion system. Avoids many low emission zone restrictions, and is totally stupid..
