Having recently seen a few adverts for the new VW ID electric vehicle range, specifically the ID.3 saloon car that's due out next year, is anyone interested in the Buzz? It's still a concept that is a couple of years away from the production line and I know darned well I'll never afford one anyway

  2. From the latest adverts on TV, the Buzz will be going into production, in which case it is likely to be our first purchase of an electric vehicle.

I honestly think that our unrestricted enjoyment of old T2's will soon be drawing to an end.

But it wont be an electric car that replaces our vans.

Not long until fights to the death start breaking out over charger points, and the only way to afford to use electric cars will be to lease as the battery replacement costs effectively make an old electric car a writeoff. Like the 35 mile range old Nissan Leaf on Top Gear..

Are we there yet ? No we are number 5 in the queue for the charger point, we will have to book in to the Premier Inn over there because our slot is 0200 to 0330.

Just can’t see the current idea of electric cars ever being workable.

  6. I suppose you are half way there if you can park one on your drive,
How will this work if you cannot park adjacent to your house?
Let alone if you have to park in the next street etc
You would need a pretty long lead
Or they will have to install pay charging points on every lamppost or whatever.

    Then there’s a trip hazard
I can just see it now no win no fee
    Have you tripped over a wire.com :D

It's going to be the "universal credit" of transport management.

  8. I agree that the electric vehicle charging industry could become a cartel, just like the oil industry is now.

But surely our future governments will look after our interests before the interests of corporate giants...

What if the battery charging wasn't an issue? Does the buzz have the charm of a late bay? Would you like to drive (or not!) with a tiny paddle rather than a steering wheel the size of Discworld? Is it a future classic?

Its a pity they wont be doing an economical Diesel version with that styling ...

In terms of styling, I love it .

As a leased in city runabout, brilliant, making short daily runs from a charger equipped parking space.

Even for my work commute, ok, as I only need under 40 miles range.

As a camper anywhere more than 50 miles from home, forget it.

And as my car nut dentist told me today, even Tesla cars have effectively zero trade in value even with a massive long lived 85kwh 200k mile lifetime £25000 battery pack... which is equivalent to about 20 litres of petrol..

No. Electric vehicles are rubbish. It just moves the pollution problem somewhere else. Ultimately, the pollution still goes up into the air and messes the world up. Don’t be conned.

So I read the website and they say "well we havent made one yet, but the range will be 200 to 340 miles"

Yeah.. like the 100MPG Diesel that led them down the sticky path....

  15. At present 3 different charging possibilities. Your house which will probably take all night, 2 x Kwh public ones at differing rates (can't remember what they are) there's 1 at a pub in the next village I know of no others. Watch the youtube video of the guy with the electric Audi, very interesting as he planned his day around being able to fast charge in town 15 miles away and when he got there it was broken so he had to limp home and use the petrol car. It's not realistic, it's not been thought about and the implications for the nation grid are horrendous. Epic Fail.

  16. I currently have a full electric leaf and a plug in hybrid as well as my van. Some of the opinions here are short sighted to say the least. I've had the leaf for just under 3 years and the phev for 2 and a half years. The pace of electric cars is unbelievable at the moment. My leaf although only 3 years old is so behind the current technology, it's going back in October once the deal has ran out and I've driven a lot of the new cars and they are so much better.

I have 2 charge points on the side of my house which deals with the charging no bother of both cars at the same time and I've only ever rapid charged at a public charger once in three years.

The current national grid is up to the job it just needs people to put chargers in. BP and Shell are both about to stat a rollout of charging points in their larger service stations.

Have a look at fully charged on YouTube

Most people can’t park outside their own house, so having their own charge points isn’t an option.

Out of interest as the leaf is coming to the end of the deal how much has it cost.

It’s just someone trying to improve on something that’s already there. Their interpretation , of you like. ‘Fossil fuel engines! Tried and tested!

Or hydro could be s reality. But wasn’t that idea made a reality in the 50’s, but bought up, and scrapped by the Arabs, because of their loss of fossil fuel sales, if it ever worked? Plenty of water about, what with increasing rainfall. Even filtered out sea water can be used. Thing is, too many people would lose out, and at the end of the day, it’s all about ‘ greasing the wheels of industry’.

Remember... somebody, somewhere, is always earning s grand,to quote John Bishop.

And if your all that bothered, then stop driving antique old oil leaking vehicles... but you won’t, Will you?
