My up and over broke, before never got the bus in because of the mechanism, so junked the lot and made some barn doors...sorted.
Fitted sectional roller door and removed timber work, van is lowered but drive in with clearance even with skylight up.
Have the roof taken off and raised. You can go to 2.5 m high without planning. I only know this because I plan on having a double wide built at the back of my new place for the X1/9 and bus.
The issue with a standard up and over door is the angle it raises at will clip the front of the van, and the door itself sits lower than the entrance. My old man took an up and over door off a new build as it wouldn't fit - and made some wooden doors. My roller shutter door touches the front of the van just, I can manually take it up some more though, I need to figure where the winder stop sensor is and get it to go up itself. At full height there is a good 5 inches over my Westy - but this is a brick build garages, plainly it is garage dependent. Four set's of neighbours have had theirs changed recently to plastic roller shutters due to original steel up and over doors all dying roughly the same time - prices range from £750 to a £1000.
I keep the van in my son's garage which is small brick built and originally had an up and over door which I got replaced with manually operated roller door (designed for a shop front). Opening it requires every bit of muscle power I've got. Cost about £900 but very secure.
Not as expensive as I thought: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELECTRIC-...Home_Garden_Doors_LE&var=&hash=item4169413c85 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electric-...Home_Garden_Doors_LE&var=&hash=item19d7228401
limbo man limbo, how did bimbo get there, it was along time ago, administrator ,administrator......libel slander.
I got an insulated sectional, keeps the garage draft free and warm, I can drive my bus straight in even with a Kayak on top and its not lowered.
After years of being without a garage I finally saved enough to build one specifically for the van. It has a 2.3m opening for the Moonraker roof clearance, insulated cavity walls, insulated floor and an insulated sectional door. Now, if that van rusts again, I'll eat my straw hat!
