That bolt into the pick up looks best left alone to me, 9 ft ilbs, wouldnt want to cough nipping that up!!
I'm not used to type 4s. Last 3 changes I just dropped it out the sump. Would be good to put in my head that I need to do a strainer, and what's that oil filter thing like a normal car......is that the strainer?
There's a filter AND a strainer on my 2L type 4. I did both last time I did the oil. But Paul has given me the heeby jeebies so might just do filter next time. LOL
yeah just do the oil filter the strainer (big disc on the bottom of the sump with a single bolt.) doesnt need doing anhere near as often. i did mine a few years ago mainly to put new gaskets in as there was a slight weep. not touched it since.
i did both on mine the 1st time i did the oil, never knew the tourque was so low then read all the horror stories....... must have got lucky 'cos i usually tighten things until the thread strips then back of 1/2 a turn (c) @Top Banana Racing
Well lets put it like this, when was the last time you dropped the sump off your daily to clean the oil pick-up?? It's just not necessary... Type 4s have a proper spin on oil filter, so I just run the engine up to temp and drop the oil hot... That'll pull any crud out of the sump... Or if you want to give it a really good clean then use a flushing oil
I'm currently running some SAE30 oil through to clean it out, as it had been stood for 2 years without an oil change. Putting some 15w40 in it next, but will only change the filter.
