just checking out some spare exchangers i bought yonks ago with a view to fitting them. Think I bought them as genuine VW but not sure. They each have a number on the [glow=red,2,300]flange[/glow] beginning 021 so assuming they are. One needs a tag welding on for the heater fan connection riser and theres a wee bit of bashing into shape required for the fanshroud connection but otherwise not tooo bad at all. Do these sound like the genuine article and whats the best way of finshing them? can they be stoved or is paint the way to go. If so what paint? Ta
Hi, I just had mine zinc plated as I understand that it is more durable than paint etc. They have onky just been done though, so I can't comment on how true this is yet!
Thanks mate thats a result then. Should offset my disapointment at losing my spare fanshroud! Been saving a set of type 4 tinware for years and was digging it all out to get it cleaned up ready for paint (or stoving) found everything (I think) except the damned fan shroud. No idea why I would have chucked that out. And it was the original 1700 one with the right engine number on it. Gonna have to buy one (thats going to hurt)
Spare tin for lhs. Not sure what thee grommet is for above the cut out for the manifold but it looks factory! Any ideas?
I'll see what I have. I didn't realise they were different. Are that in fact different apart from the number stamped on them?
Yep, hot zinc sprayed, but the company are in Norfolk. It looks great and I'm told its super durable. Not sure of exact cost or the company name but can find out if you like?
When I lived in suffolk, I used an awesome powder coaters out in st Olaves near great yarmouth... they do all sorts of stuff.. hot zinc, hot aluminium, plus all sorts of powder coats... way ahead of any powder coaters I've been to since!! http://www.aerocoat.net/
