Type 4 Fan Housing - Powder coat or Paint?

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by kenward, May 19, 2015.

  1. Just in the process of removing tin ware to get it powder coated and not sure what to do with the fan housing, do people just clean, paint or powder coat? just worried about the thickness of powder coating, also do you separate the two halves ? Type 4
    Thanks

  2. I just used smooth hammerite (silver) from a tin. I would get it powder coated if i was to do it again. I split mine so i could fully degrease then got some nice stainless screws to put it back together.

If it's a smooth casting finish ...i have seen them rubbed down with ..say P 1200 then polished up with solverol , comes up like chrome .`

  4. Ok thanks
Think i will go for powder coat then, was just worried about the coating thickness but guess others have used it?

  5. Thanks
Yes that could look great but i don't have the time or inclination!!! need a quick and easy fix. :)

  6. I had a pot of gold Hammerite in the garage so after they had been shot blasted I painted them with that, then when I get round to re-fitting the engine and chip the paint I can easily touch it up

  7. I just used under coat & a spray can to match the colour of the van. Not a pro job but better than it was before.
