Yes! When my engine was taken out for attention, they removed the offending component and gave it to me as it wasn't necessary to replace it. It's in my garage, severely rusted with a white fibrous material poking out! Don't really want to touch it!
Oem part number looks to be 038119227. Did some googling and looks like heritage is cheapest at 87 free postage (eBay). thinking about getting this as my bumper gets super hot on a long run so similar amount of heat must be going up into the engine.. cant understand why it would be matt black though, reflective / silver underside would be more effective, no?
Add placed back in January, and it’ll probably still be there next January. Having said that, some peeps pay stupid money for a clock, if the add said it was a Westfalia heat shield it would probably sell.
Sorry, absolutely no idea! It's an original stock part for a 2l type 4 as the bus has never been modified in any way.
That white fibre falling out of it will almost certainly be asbestos. I’d dispose of it – although it’s not easy to comply with the regulations. https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/guidance/em9.pdf When new heat shields are available relatively cheaply it’s not worth messing with something that could kill you. IMO
It's quite a complicated component, made of two thin pressings sandwiched together with the asbestos in between. Not sure how you'd make an exact replica though you could probably cobble something together with flat sheets using the same dimensions. I think this would be an easier option: https://www.heritagepartscentre.com...MIusv94-Oc6wIVB-7tCh3caAgbEAQYASABEgLov_D_BwE
I have been handling it very gingerly. I don't think I'm going to die quite yet. https://www.asbestos.com/exposure/short-term/
