  1. Hi all, I have been looking for CJ cylinder heads and was going to buy from status as they were £200 each and in the couple of weeks trying to save the money they've doubled in price. Have seen them for £287 but would be nice to find them cheaper if I can because this engine and box rebuild is crippling me. Does anyone know any cheaper places?

  2. What's wrong with your current heads??

  3. a piece of the valve guide decided to travel around the engine, looks like someone took a jackhammer to it. the problem ive got now is i have the rare 1979 square exhaust port head!i'm finding it a nightmare to source one, let alone at a decent price :(

  4. Not that rare dude.... they were used for 2 years on the 2l CU T25 engines ;)

pretty sure there is a pair for sale in the classifieds at the mo

Failing that I can get new oversized guides to rebuild your head with...

  5. Sorry for the threadjack. :)
Paul, i've got a cj head with a dropped valve seat, it's loose so i guess it's rattled around a bit. What's the best course of action, is it more cost effective to rebuild, or better to get a new one? Cheers

  7. That's a poorly fitted seat if it drops out if the engine goes 20°c over operating temp

your heads should be running at 350°f, and a max temp of 400°f.... so yeah, 20°c over 400°f would poss see a valve seat coming out, but you'd have serious running lean issues to see those sorts of temp in this country!!

  8. its around £80 for a new seat fitted and nobody will guarantee it , the heads are cast around the seats when manuFACTured so are very secure,

Is this statement true ? as i cant believe the seats are cast in ...... I`ve never had a seat recess but i would just make a new oversize one and using liquid nitrogen shrink it in ! At a guess there made from stellite ?

  9. The ones I've worked on look like the seats are machine fitted and have had a press peen... but I could well be wrong...

  11. Thanks for the replies. That's a pain in the @rse, it makes me wish my van had a type 1 engine instead, but i'd like to familiarise myself with the t4 engine, so i'll persevere. I haven't checked the other head yet, but i'm guessing it'll need work if it's an overheating issue?

  12. possibly... problem with the type 4s is the balance pipe between the twin carbs... the rubber joint's perish, and the van starts running rough at idle... idle gets turned up to compensate, and the engine cooks at driving speeds as it's running lean...

    vicious circle ;)

  14. I hate to say it, but a type 4 is just as expensive as a type 1 of the same capacity... although some of the std type 1 prices are way up now!!

  15. I got a good one in the classifieds at the moment for £200. :)

As I've had no interest I'll do it for £200 delivered to your door its off a GE engine which is exactly the type you need. :)
