  1. Are your customers impressed when the door falls off when you open it ;)?

    Looks like a good buy!

  2. Engine for the van and push bike for backup. Another vehicle is another set of bills to deal with.

  5. Agree about C15 - if you can get one cheaply with a long MOT, the mechanicals are great, the bodywork isn't.

As someone said in a magazine :" when it rains you can hear the bodywork oxidising".

  11. New engine means bus is up and running. A second car will mean more bulls etc and bus still off road

  12. new for 750 ? fitted n running ?

  13. I can recommend commuting by van, did Chester to Warrigntom each day in the T25, 300 miles a week. If I was still working there I'd be doing it by bay now.

Fuel bills were horrific, but doing the sums it was still cheaper than getting another car (coz if you buy a really cheap one odds on it'll need its own work done on it, and not be anymore reliable). Plus the van seemed better for being used.

I'd take a punt on a second hand engine, take up the kind offer of fitting made above and as others have said you'll have both van and daily driver in one.....

When I took my old engine out I put it in the shed just in case for a rainy day, Two years went by and one of my mates who'd kept asking me for it engine blew up on his Beetle, I gave in and sold it too him, I really did'nt want to sell it but he needed one, We dug it out of the back of my garage and fitted it, It's still running perfect and has never missed a beat, You should get a good second hand one I say rather than a recon one also someone must have an spare engine on here somewhere, if you want recon Iv'e heard good and bad about this bloke , Mostly bad about his bigger engines not the stock 1600 which seem to be ok and after years on ebay he's still selling them, £ 650 is worth a punt innit

I've got a 1600 out of a type3, would need some of your tins and mounting bracket& exhaust swapping over, I'll try and get it running on a bench see what i can suss. If it's ok £500ish.
Only problem, Techenders this weekend then I'm off to Spain Tuesday to Saturday so be looking at the first week of May before I can look at it, or I could bring it to t/e and have a play there ?

  17. Guy's name is Miri, he's Greek. He's importing and breaking bays from Europe. I have bought quite a bit off stuff of him and he seems to be a really top bloke. But he is not my mate nor do I know him, so make your own judgement.

I have also bought off this guy with no issues.

  20. Buying a small cheap van with mot for work makes sense.

The other option of trying to get a decent type 1 engine is risky. So many stories on here about problem engines and people buying bad engines. Its a minefield.
