  1. well after a 2am discussion do we spend the £600-£800 on a Van for hubby to get to work or do we buy a temporary replacement engine and he uses Vera for work?!
If latter don't suppose anybody has one for sale?

  2. I think @Woodster was talking about one in the techendrs thread.
Might be worth talking to him.

  5. Depends really....
I used my classic car for work but ended up spending a fortune on fuel and worrying about it parked up on the road. If it's in decent condition then I would opt for a cheap van, unless he works somewhere really nice and close by?

  6. He does it's only 3 miles to a country house he's a gardener !

  8. Need some tin wear off ur engine to make it fit as its out of a beetle this one but I think it would fit in there with a bit of work

  9. perfect, £800 on a van for work wont be £800, tax, insurance etc and still the bus sits. Better to spend £800 getting the bus going again (+£100 in Carling for @1973daisey ). 2 birds one stone, no brainer.

We bought our first Westy Continental off a landscape gardener in Shepton Mallet.
It eventually cleaned up OK but looked horrendous inside when we viewed it.
Think carefully coz it'll get dusty & dirty unless he promises not to carry tools & to change his boots & trousers before driving Vera lol:D

  11. id get the car for work n make sure he does lots of overtime then you can get decent engine for the bus , messing about with other engines you know nothing about really can only cost you more money and time and your husband wont get to work either , recipe for disaster , plus as said you need something reliable for work surely o_O

  13. Well in that case a nice new engine. 3 miles a day to keep the bus ticking over and will look good at the country house.

Engine is progress and you need one anyway. You can always get a car if it isn't working out or perish the thought, a push bike to commute on if push comes to shove?

  15. If @1973daisey is willing to help spend the money on a recon, bung a towbar on and small trailer for tools. Job jobed ;-)

You could buy a citroen C15 van for work and only spend a few hundred and save the rest for the van engine. One just went with 11 months mot on eBay for £250 :)

I've just done 600 miles in mine over the past few days and it was fab. It did 10 miles to every £1 of diesel. This averaged out at 48 mpg. It looks a shed but is a proper throw anything in it work horse.

    Here's my little lovely :)
