I've always wondered if just the upright bits could be bought. You could make your own then whatever size you like. I bet it'd save a few bob too.

You not got enough room in your van then?

ive always wanted a 2 bow roof rack, however it then creates the problem of the awning rail clashing with it when setup on site, i dont fancy the idea of taking it off when connecting to the tent everytime....
Has anyone ever got round this ?

Home made clamps for the pole that space it out a bit from the bus and figure of eight strip for the fabric edge cut into shorter lengths, one of which fits between the roofrack legs.

Needed anyway because the poptop is too close to the gutter edge on the slider side to be able to fit normal clamps.

Something like that Mike, although my Devon roof has enough room to clamp it to the gutter,

The other thought I had was to cut the back leg off the roof rack and turn a piece of bar to connect the 2 pieces together with some sort of R clip to make it quick release.

A bit like one of these https://shopwl.com/scaffold-clamp-joint-pin-48mm/

I would focus on keeping the roofrack strong and not damaging the finish of the roofrack.

In fact the other day I took my roofrack off completely in about 5 minutes to squeeze into a 2.0metre clearance multistorey carpark. But it was so big and heavy, inside the bus, as soon as I left the carpark it went back on the roof. And I left a big black mark across the roof dragging the roofrack's rubber coated leg ( lucky) across the paint ( glued on bits of butyl rubber pondliner to protect the paint ) ..

Also my roofrack and gutters just about survived going under a too low car park barrier with all four legs working hard. I can trust it with a heavy awning on top and pull myself up with the roofrack.
I think that you have it the wrong way round - the roofrack is more permanent than the awning so you modify the way the awning attaches rather than mess with the roofrack.

Going through exactly this scenario , just bought a two bow for exactly the same reasons as @Faust and now trying to fathom out how to fix my awning tunnel .
Figure of eight from tunnel to gutter cut round the legs of the rack won’t work unless i notch the tunnel rail .. brand new awning so I won’t be doing that
I may be able to use the figure of 8 strips up to the rack then use one of the straps that goes over the van somehow ..
Not had opportunity to get the camper and awning together yet to try various options

I also had no issues with either of my awnings when the roof rack was fitted (Devon pop). I used either the figure of 8 or clamp type depending on my mood / hangers on :)

I would of liked to have put my spare wheel up there but it's to small the 2 bar ...and the 3 bar won't fit .
The awning issues are not really much of a worry for me Dazza ,as i have always just used a sturdy pop up tent to chuck all my gubbins in and keep the portaloo in there too ...not for solids mind, really just for the wife .
It's a plastic milk bottle for me or the hedge .

You’re a lucky man then , my wife and daughter do not travel light so awning it is ..

Oh and apparently I snore ( can’t believe it myself ) so they sleep in the awning as well

How did you manage where the awning rail passes the leg of the roof rack ? If you see what I mean
I've got an awning and a sun shade both of which attach with clamps as picture but my roof isnt that close...[IMG]

She won't care Coll ...she's jealous she can't slash in a bottle in the van like me , saving the effort of going out in the cold night air ...and waking the whole campsite up with the sliding door .

In fact ..she even packs the bottle for me when we go to camp ....mind it's chucked into the recyclable waist when we leave empty of coarse .

If I did something to the leg of the rack it would be strong enough. I see what you mean about altering the awning but I'd have to alter both the sun shade and the awning both fairly new so I'd rather modify the leg of the rack
