Twin Carbs?

Ok a really stupid question from me (the newbie to late bays!), the bay I'm about to pick up this week has twin carbs and it is the original 1700 engine, would the carbs have been fitted after it left the factory? or should it be a single carb?

All type 4 engines had twin carbs from the factory

 

Was FI added later then?

 

I think Paul means none were fitted with single carbs .......
