Twin carbs on a type 4 motor

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Stew, Aug 13, 2012.

  1. Ive got twin 34 webbers on my bus's 1800 type 4 motor. It pops and farts on the left side and on removing the filter inside is black yet the right hand one is fine and clean. Also it only pops and farts at low-ish speeds i.e. we came up from Huntingdon to tyneside yesterday at a steady 65 -70ish and its fine but pootle around at 50 and it hicks and pops a little bit. Any ideas appreciated. When I first put them on a lad had a go and seemed to get then going fine but, I cant find a garage up here willing to touch them!!!

  2. Carb is running too rich by sound of it

  3. Where abouts in Tyne side are you?

  4. I'm in Whitley bay

  5. Could be a blocked idle jet...

  6. Think there is a place called VW inspirations in shiremoor or there was.

  7. Had I have known, I could've popped in... was down in whitley bay today

popping back up the carbs is normally due to incorrect valve gaps

If you're in need of help, give me a shout, as I'm quite often in the area

  9. I certainly do

that air up the carb has to come from somewhere ;)

  10. Thanks for the advise. So far I've found the heat ex' on that side slightly slack and sorted that. It runs better but, is rough in the mid range. tick over fine, goes to high revs fine and holds high revs but, if I back off a bit it starts running a bit rough. Its not too bad but, noticable.

  11. I'll be down your way in about a week and a half if you want me to have a look...?
