I've got front 2" tubs at the moment, the front seats have been modified So I can still see out the windscreen (6ft 7) I struggle anyway, If you want to go low and want that look and stay safe then tubs are the way to go, not everyone loves a lowered (slammed) bay, I personally really like the look and if you lower your bus the right way it will drive like a stock height bus anyway. Currently considering tubbing the rear as I'm getting a little bit of rub from my rear wheels but will experiment with Smaller tyres first
Any pics? What did it cost would you estimate? I'm seriously thinking of going down the narrowed/tubbed/air route but not got a clue how much I'm looking at
I can get pics but the bus is tucked up at the moment... To lower a bay is very expensive you can cut cost buy welding and fitting your self but rough guide would be Dropped spindles 600 Rear spring plates 250 Tubs 200 Narrowed beam 500 I've got air shocks on the front which will raise lower the front by about 2" You've got factor in BIG chassis notches front and rear narrowing your leaves and steering arms. I know a local shop did All of the above for for a friend for £4000 round about. That's everything from ordering the parts to them fitting and welding everything
and don't forget to factor in the cost of the BIVA test , the extra work on your van needed to pass and the cost of re registering
there are a lot of landrovers that do since VOSA have their teeth into them who's to say VW's aren't next on the hit list
Got some mild tubs on mine... They help when I tie my sons to the front to get that extra few centimetres of drop...
Each to their own but Im not a fan they always look broken to me. Good luck - oh yes and if you do get around to burning your bus then let me know as that would be entertaining. What would I know as Mines and Ice -cream van!
6 foot 7 in a bay. Im a midget at 6,1 and my head nearly touches the roof (perhaps ive got Umpa-Lumpa legs)
To be honest being this height is majorly impractical, my stlye of driving has been adapted to sloping on the steering wheel, just so I can atleast see whats coming up...
My crewcab a going up as our roads are shyte and it's no fun having my spine coming out the top of my head every time we go over a speed hump. Not too high though but there's no way I could live with a bus with no suspension travel and my head on the headliner. It looks cool low but if rather have function over form
My head would be buried in the headliner even if it was stock height lol, that aside you can't beat a stock height bus for comfort and they do drive great, and practical.. I think me and the Girlfriend have just got that used to it that it's the norm for us strangely. One day it will rise again I'm sure (and no I don't have ED I meant the bus)
one of the great things about type 2 is the ability of off road like a landy while camping , well most camping in them is done in fields and beaches , if lowered there a bitch if not they cruise of road , i had a lowered bus HATED IT , heavey steering wears joints quicker etc , owen nw
The slammed vans look cool but as mentioned they lose their functionality a bit. Slightly lowered is ok i guess.
You'd be surprised at the muddy bogs my bay has made it out of...especially pleasing when the T4/5's are stuck. lowering them properly helps, a K&L beam helps as the lower beam is an inch higher, dropped spindles kinda retain a decent ride... ...I'm not convincing anyone am I?
