A lot of people seem to disapprove of trick or treating but the kids love it, I say it’s only a bit of harmless fun

I dunno, it's kind of grown into something kids do now. It used to be gobby teens with a scream mask on wanting cash, it seems to have moved away from that back to littler kids. It's only one night a year, get a big tub of sweets in and wait for the knock at the door

We don’t get any kids up our road because it’s off the beaten track, and all the outside lights are switched off :)
We need it about as much as we need Proms.

  8. Thing is, the Yanks do it right - quite an event. Here it's just extortion (well, sort of).

  9. Oi!

  10. We have got the gates bolted and the front of the house is in darkness, our neighbours are hiding out in their conservatory with their bell disconnected!
Cant be bothered with the little beggars coming to the door and winding the dogs up - the fireworks going off do a good enough job of that.

I lived in Canada as a nipper and we used to have a great time, neighbours would mostly stand by their open doors with bowls of sweets, those who didn’t want to get involved, didn’t. Everybody else would be out on the street, parents and kids.

Think the date of it has moved around a bit

  15. I used to tie my gates together to stop them coming up the drive. Ive no longer got gates :( However, most of the kids are the little ones, and there's a couple of houses that seem to go quite big on the event and have set up their front gardens as halloween party areas so hopefully all the kids will go to them!

Where we live the houses are new so there are a lots of families with small children, everyone gets into the spirit of it old and young, we even decorate our houses, the rule is we only knock on houses with pumpkins or tea lights, my daughter really enjoys herself she’s been looking forward to tonight for weeks bless her

  17. I usually answer the door wearing a blond wig and string vest. Does the trick
