Towbar fitting - questions!

  1. Ok so I have a tow bar with 8 holes, 4 on each end steel plate, the last one is for the bumper. As I have a CSP Python the tow bar fouls on the 4in1 collector however I have a cunning plan (or two!).
    1. Drill new holes that allow the towbar to fit but this will mean that I only use 4 bolts not the 6 so will this be strong enough to pull a trailer or will the towbar eventually break???
    2. Get the steel end plates cut off and new ones welded on that are slightly longer so I clear the exhaust and use all 6 bolt holes.
    Thanks in advance peeps!

  2. I think option 1 may potentially cause the bolts to shear depending on the weight towed so would avoid it if possible. Option 2 sounds like the way to go..

  3. yeah, you need more than 4 bolts, otherwise it could pull the captive nuts out of the chassis...

my tow bar has plates that go round the chassis rail, and you have 2 extra bolts per side, through the side of the chassis rail!!
