Anyone else see Geraint Thomas crash on the descent into Gap? His noggin took one hell of a knock on a telegraph pole at the side of the road, how he managed to get back on his bike, let alone ride to the finish is anyone's guess! Guy's becoming a hero of mine this tour
We're just watching it on the recorded highlights... Ouch! Poor G! He seems a really decent guy, so hope it doesn't affect his tour too much.
Makes me laugh that Geraint Thomas was in the same year group as the winning captain of the Lions, and the worlds most expensive footballer....and because it's a boggo comp in Cardiff we never hear about it...
Just finished watching a recording of the highlights that looked like one big smash into the telegraph pole, lucky he wasn't a footballer otherwise he'd still be writing in agony and looking for sympathy. I must admit having seen the crash I was surprised he even finished, good on him. He said they didn't make them anymore, someone in the crowd got a souvenir
I used to think the TDF was a bit of a none event to be honest . Racing to me was all about first into the next corner , and a good weekend away - hopefully doing well and coming away unscathed Until you understand the TDF all about the history , selfless sacrifices made by most of the domestiques , sheer superhuman effort now it`s clean (apparenty) just to finish and most of all the team work and cameraderie over an incredible 3 weeks , it does seem a VERY bizarre event .... Wouldn`t miss it these days - on tv anyways Chapeau to the lot of `em ....
he was lucky it was'nt a cliff drop ,but he would have climbed back up... Descending at speed on a bike is brill ,just like a big rollercoaster ,that lasts miles...
Well done Chris Froome, last couple of days particularly exciting seeing if Quintana could crawl back those 3 minutes. Froome's team mates deserve a lot of credit, especially Geraint Thomas, he's dropped off a bit in the last fee days but for most of the tour his riding has been heroic. Looking forward to seeing him next year.
Don't forget Quintana is only 24 and can beat froome in the mountains ,next year will be interesting .. I liked when Froome shook hands with him, then ruffled his hair ,like his little brother.. The spitting in Froom's face is the only let down in this years tour.. @Merlin Cat watching the women race now..
Yep, Quintana has been awesome in the mountains. How he can be pedalling along with the bunch on these kind of gradients then just kick into another gear so easily. Pretty scary and impressive stuff! Agree about the spitting and other bits of nastiness going on. Would like to see the culprits spend 3 weeks in the saddle with very little respite. I'd call them scum but that's an insult to scum really.
I did! It's nowhere. He could have slagged off the guy who spat at him for all I know. I hope he did.
He said "I'd like to thank my hosts, and remind them that a line of concrete fortifications in the east of France is not an effective defence. Any invaders - mentioning no names - will merely drive north around it, through the Ardenne forests. Merci et Au Revoir."
