IMG_3578.jpeg This is my first snap on box. Bought in 1987. It’s semi retired now but was in constant use for more than 30 years. Still mint.

Probably because they found that the USA manufacturer they abandoned in cost down by offshoring production measures has gone bust in the meantime, now they want to bring production back to the USA .

I’ve always thought it takes an exceptionally low sort of scumbag to steel a workers tools

  6. only so much to say about torque wrenches . I did look at the Hazet range but we want decent bench top boxes with about 5 or 6 drawers . We got £8k to spend and snap on doesn’t want it !

Yep! In the 90’s, I stupidly left all my tools in a van overnight, and had the lot nicked. Properly stuffed up my work for a while ..

No doubt the thieving scrotes sold the lot for £50 down the nags head

I always had really cheapo tools. Do you remember when my workshop was broken into? Power tools were piled up then left in a heap because the scrotes found a TV to pinch in another unit. lol The rest of my tools were dumped all over the place (by me), probably/definitely not worth the effort and no tool box to transport them in.

  9. Scumbag is the exact word for them ! It was some lowlifes in a beat up old white Transit van . This is why I never buy second hand tools from ebay , gumtree or especially car boot sales

  10. Really impressive .Almost to good to use !

I think that was before my time, as you had the extra security gate / door thing if I recall? I do remember the tool storage / scatterage system though… my current situation is only marginally better lol

My philosophy hasn't changed either - don't have anything worth the effort of stealing. My boat doesn't lock, nor did my previous one. If someone pinched my camper I'm not sure I'd really care TBH.
If someone stole my computer (which they wouldn't because it's a desktop not an i-thing laptop) I'd be sad because I have things I created on it and too lazy to back up. I couldn't be angry though because if I lost those things it would be my own fault and anyway sometimes it's healthy to start again.

This is not to say scrotes stealing your stuff is ok of course, but it's a fact of life. I might be lucky but nobody has stolen anything from me in my entire life. Probably looked in the window and thought I'd been turned over already.

  13. You've been very lucky but when it happened to me I was not sentimental about the tools but I still had to work to pay my mortgage and provide for the family . Stealing food to survive is not right but i can understand it ( a bit) but stealing someone's tools for example is unexcusable and i would have been quite happy to see them have 50 lashes in the town square and a good custodial sentence of hard labour for their crime .

  14. Some are, some not.

I'd avoid most Snap-On battery stuff, although my 1/2 gun (even though Ni-Cad) is still holding up well. Ratchets, sockets, and spanners are top notch. Tool boxes grossly over priced.
My Halfords Pro stuff has never let me down, I even have a large selection of Hilka spanners which are nicely made and haven't snapped yet. Sealey is also fairly good IMO, got a decent set of impact sockets at a sensible price which have been smashed apart on the above battery gun with no issues.

  15. See if you can contact Terry Giles - he covers west Berkshire so might be able to sort you out (unless of course it's a genuine back order) - he's been the Snap On rep here for years. PM if you want me to dig out his number

I've got a biggy and a small one. Small for engine stuff, big one barely sees any action, I bought the big one cheap from someone who was selling up.

  19. The bigguns aren't much use...until you need one. Used mine for the first time in a year yesterday for doing up inaccessible Golf suspension bolts. One good heave and a click and it can go back in the box for another year. Think mine goes up to 350 ft lbs.
