Top end rebuild

    It's nice moment when an engine starts without a conrod smashing it's way through the case or whatever. lol There's always a tiny bit of "what did I forget?" even when you know you didn't forget anything.

    Well, we've done just over 500 miles since the rebuild with 300+ being done this weekend when we drove up to stay on the Lincolnshire coast.

    The van has been transformed! The engine is nice and quiet (we can talk when driving at 60mph), it will accelerate up moderate hills and hold it's speed on more serious hills (12%). Temperate gauge hovers around the 87-95 region (depending on what we're doing). Dropping down to 30 at town centre speeds keep the temperature down below 90. When stationary, goes up to 100+ but still runs fine and cools down quickly when moving off.

    And...better fuel economy. Managed 24mpg this weekend which was unheard of before.

    Two niggles to fix
    • feint whiff of petrol when we were sleeping in it overnight
    • fix dodgy gearbox bolt
