Too much kit to carry or minimal living?

When I redo the interior we'll be fitting a smaller sink and water botter, the sink with drainer and the 20l water bottle is overkill - we could do with the storage instead.

  3. We've got it down to a fine art, after years of camping, people think that we have all sorts of everything, but we have what we need to camp continuiously for 6 weeks and can fit everything in the van and live comfortably.

There's nothing worse than planning a weekend and packing just the 'essentials' to find the weekend pear shaped because the weather's changed, the food you were expecting to buy isn't there or you're not up to the adventurous weekend you had planned and just want a slobby one!

We always make sure that everything fits in the cupboards and not in boxes, bags and on the floor, otherwise it feels like your living in a moving car booty as you rumage for the pair of knickers/crisps/cider/cork screw/book that you convinced yourself you packed. ;D

Nuff said im a minimalistic packer!! ;)

  6. If its just me then just the essentials if my girlfriend comes along then there are at least 4 bags that she brings with mirrors and hair straighteners etc and the floorspace gets taken up

My bus is packed with everything I need and everything has at least more than one use. What I am against is having things in boxes or on the floor except the gazebo. I've just cut down the windbreaks poles because it was too big and awkward. Even the coolbox now sits behind the rear seat with a 12v socket fitted nearby to reduce the messy cable hanging around.

My thinking is that I like to be able to pull up on route, climb into the back for a brew, nap or whatever and not clamber over everything. As my grandmother said "A tidy home my son is a happy home" :)

if you carry enough vodka all the problems with kit dissapear.

Back to topic (hopefully - I've forgotten what it was while I was typing. :- )Horses for courses - there's only one of birdy (aww :'( ) so he can use the whole van and stash everything. When I had a wife and 2 6 ft kids it was full to the roof, kids used the sink for a bin, ex bought everything she could - we'd arrive while everyone else was eating their evening meal... It was really quiet to drive though.

  18. We always pack enough food to keep a small country going............................then eat out when we get there!!!

  20. 2011 was our first year of 'camping' (if you can call trading at shows and having to stay overnight for one or two nights camping). By the final show of the year, we'd sort of managed to get a bit more organised ::) I tend to have too much of stuff rather than not enough so I need to work on that LOL. But at least if someone needs a spare bog roll or a plaster or a headache tablet or some hotdogs, they know who's van to knock on ::)
