To Seal or not to Seal

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by kenward, Nov 10, 2014.

  1. Hi
Got new window seals on order for my bus and in the old days I used to fit a windscreen and seal it with black mastic, do people recommend sealing or not? window apertures are all good and seals new and good quality (A H Schofields)

  2. I wouldnt bother with side or rear windows as the seal is usually pretty good

front screen seals seem a little smaller and is a usual place where it collects water and rusts

if your going to seal, use a non setting windscreen sealant rather than mastic

  3. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

It's seemingly impossible to tell whether the windscreen is going to leak, but the others don't until the seals are old and shrunken.

    Any recommendations for the sealant?

  5. dont know off the top of my head, was something I got from my local motor factors ...halfords probably do something

I'd rather seal the front screen to be on the safe side .....I've fitted a heated front screen to mine, and if water gets to the edge of the glass it can damage the element, so I've sealed screen to van, and screen to seal if that makes sense

  6. Seal! I'm about to get the silcone out to deal with this puddle, seeping via the windscreen
