  1. Hi all, I’ve got a Viking roof and a few other bits that I need picked up this coming weekend but not 100% sure I can get there
The roof etc is in DN14 0QU area, is there anyone that can pick them up and help me get these bits?!

  2. You may need to put a bit more effort into your post, if you want someone to help transport a Viking roof from DN14.(Is that Darlington or Doncaster?)

Where are you trying to get it to?

Are you thinking people could strap the Viking roof on top of their camper or turn it upside down and paddle it down a canal?

  3. Viking roof from Goole (Hull) to Southend! Both by the sea so .....

  4. Quality, sailing it down the sea will be much quicker than by canal!

Someone on here may have a transit pick up or something like or a big van ....think your best bet is to get a cheap day hire deal with a small company .

to me it sounded more like a pick up and hold local until he can get up there type of vibe?

But even so the Viking roof is something like 14ft long iirc.
I collected a T3 Viking Explorer roof for the syncro last Autumn and had to hire the most mahoosive LWB van the hire co had on the books so it would fit inside flat lengthways and between the wheel arches to avoid damage.
Cost about 60 plus fuel for the day, round trip from Derby to Surrey

I picked my viking roof up on a 8ft roof rack
I simply split my large ladder half each side zip tied them to the roof rack for full length support then ratchet strapped the roof down.[IMG]

You are not alone...got a bit of work to do to our one yet. Not least of which is convincing the current Mrs BM that it's a good idea to cut a big hole in the roof!
    Mmmmmm Shelllldonnnn:cool:

  18. Better off road ability without the extra weight of the fibre glass roof?

Nope, she simply doesn't want what she calls a 'cutesy camper'.
I don't like the big slab rear end Westfalias, although they are practical, coz I think they look top heavy on a T3.

I'd love a Weinsberg Zwitterdach, but they are like rocking horse poo and daft expensive. Not to pop, but to be able to stand up in.
So the current compromise is that we use it as a tin top for the next year, whilst I try and ignore my prolapsed disc, and then we talk about getting a bit more bend room...not a high top note, just more bend room!

So my plan is to fit a Viking Explorer, early T3 air-cooled only as far as I can tell, but not to pop but as a fixed medium top.
They have a step down at the rear which adds a bit of character and in body colour I think I'll get away with it.
That'll give a bit more room for me to move around if I'm not already in a wheel chair by that stage!

Here's a syncro with one on...a thread on the samba and the only one I've seen...

And I've even gone to the trouble of colouring one in body colour so she could visualise it...it hasn't worked yet...:(

  20. Please tell Mel that I don't think a Syncro can ever be called a cutesy camper ;)
