That doesn't look like a candidate for a restoration to me; n'or does it look like a £5k bus. It just needs a bit of a tidy up to window surrounds. More photos of problem areas would of course help though.
I bought my van in restored condition, rhd, new metal, new paint, rebuilt engine for 1ok. The price for this van is hard to measure, but I don't see it fetching 10k, @Mabel is selling his nice one on here for £7,500 It is a rolling project although its not rolling much theses days and would suit a buyer who can do the work, paying for the work could be expensive. Metal, paint and labour is a lot of money.
10 k plus all day long.... when finished the sky's the limit... mabel's bus is different ,if it was a westy ,it would have sold in ten minutes...
maybe I am a bit out of touch with the prices but I suggest a few extra pics of the underbody and problem areas and put it up on here in the classifieds and see what the response is.
Go for the T5. But consider a T4 camper as they are older, but a lot cheaper. Then you may still have cash left over from selling the Bay. Just remember , when water gets into a Bay, the bodywork rots, but it keeps rolling. When water gets into a T5, the electrics rot and you will be on the big yellow taxi with even bigger bills. And never forget that when some stupid thing like a DPF or DMF breaks, it can cost a lot more than even buying a recon engine for a T2. It was a snowy, windy day when I had a yellow taxi ride with a damaged engine in my bus, the AA driver told me he had already transported two T5 Californias earlier in the day both of which had died with water in the electrics. Just dont leave it too many years before you decide to come back, you may never be able to afford it.
Would you use it as a daily? Have you got another car? Did you use T2 as a daily? I reckon your T2 worth more than £5000
I used it every weekend and drove to work once a week which is 20 miles each way, only stopped using it because the accelerator cables snapped and I haven't time to fix it. Well I did today but its peeing down. Also we were wondering about getting two car seats in the back (baby number two is on the way). Maybe I was chancing my arm with the 10k mark just because its a westy and people seem to like them, I remember when I won it on eBay for £8100 the guy was hesitant to let me have it for that so I told him I didn't need the awning that it came with the old misery
if you dont use it and you dont have a interest or the money in having a old vehicle as a hobby sell it, after all lifes to short. As for value i see a £3/4ooo will get a off the road project, a van with a mot free from problems £10k and a really good one £15k with a excellent one £20k. so looking at yours it needs new front, window frames and rubbers plus painting and general tidying i would guess £7000
I think we are coming together on this one and hope its helpful to give our opinions and a guess at the price. Its all about you being realistic now with your asking price. You only paid 8k for it and presumably it was in better nick then and you have enjoyed it. I don't think you can expect to get more back than you paid for it as it is, so I would let it go for maybe 6k to 7k and be happy with that.
I went from bays to a t4 to a t5 , whilst the t4 and t5 are great to drive and u know ur gonna get where ur going they just don't give me the same smile u get from behind the wheel of a bay!. If that makes sense!!. My old mans now got a bay but wishes he'd got a t5 as he could use it everyday like a car. I'd take a bay over a t5 tho. Each to there own . Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That bus doesn't seem so bad at all, from what can be seen the underside looks in good order and where the work goes. The window sills and the sliding door runner panels are hardly the end of the world. Guess it's all relative to the price but I would be feeling pretty smug if I took that for £6k, £7k is realistic.
Cheers for all the feedback so far guys, was just looking at t4s online they seem bloody expensive for a good one
