Thinking of selling for a T5 (sorry)

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Frannie, Jan 28, 2017.

  1. As the title says were thinking of selling the bus and putting the money towards a T5, I don't have the time or disposable income anymore to look after her. I just think someone else could put the time and money into it, instead of it sitting on our drive getting rustier. My wife wants to do Lake Garda in a van and I think a T5 would be more feasible for this kind of thing, I love our bus its a 79 Berlin auto but think its gonna have to go :(

  4. Im getting someone round to give me a quote on the bodywork just out of interest, it needs all new rubber seals and welding under the windows. And Id like him to tell me how much its actually worth

  6. Ah shame. But you want something reliable for Italy and if yours isn't, then....
But you can always re-join the T2 owning ranks if you miss that unmistakeable character.

Stay on TLB though and share that journey!

  8. t2 's go up ,t5's go down ,he would need to win the lottery to get back on the ladder...:D

  9. I loved driving to Italy in my rusty old bay a good few years back, over the alps from Switzerland all in gear 2, down into Lombardia, passed Garda and down to Parma and Toscana . You see in a bay even the going is like a mini adventure with rust as part of the deal.... other drivers waving as they thunder past on the autostrada. smiles galore.
In a car loaded with comfort features and reliable (a t5 looks like a big car to me) , well, you could just fly and hire a car. Nobody will warm to you particularly , just another tourist. No waves, no 'scene' at all. It's nice to travel, and in a bay it's nice to do the journey ..if the mechanics are up to it.... and having my bay as a talking point works as a great entree anyhwhere. So I'll pass on the T5. Built in obsolescence too, if you ask me.

Looks a lot nicer than any T5 I've ever seen

  14. Its kind of a safety thing to, don't feel to safe on the motorway in a crosswind with my family on board. Drove it to work last week and the accelerator cable snapped on the M1 with this stupid smart motorway thing, I didn't make it to a lay-by place, Marmite myself as lorries steamed towards me

Don't drive on motorways then, you'll have a much nicer journey anyway, it should be part of the trip not just about the destination

  16. looks a lovely bus....

You have to do the best for you and your family ,I am sure you will get a nice T5 in exchange...

  17. That is a lovely drive, done it a few years back ( not in a bay) avoiding motorways. Lake Garda then Milan then Allesio and back via the french alps.Do it in a vehicle you feel comfortable in.

  20. I feel for you, breaking the cable on the m1, January too. I've been there too many times...if I knew then what I knew now. Had it all, blown up engines, smashed window screen, got one nicked, other stuff on motor way,. Still I get a lot out of driving my bay. Even like maintenance (no in winter) which seems to set me apart from, almost everybody else round here, I'm still learning after 18 years....I'm a. Mech numpty. On the other hand, if you want an easy life and most do, then just do the transport thing in a car.
There all just tin boxes on wheels with different shapes
