  1. To sell or not to sell is the question
Its not a rot box but i feel its too slow for what we will need next year long distance camping tour
think im getting old and just cant be arsed fixing/tinkering with it after every outing
But is now the time to sell or should i wait until the spring
Any advise would be great to help me decide which way to go
i do love local days out and local campsites but doing long journeys with a 1600cc brick shaped bus is not my idea of fun any more
Heres a few pictures of Larry my latest and maybe last latebay

  2. I would absolutely wait until spring. In the cold and dark, nobody will want to look at a bus.

  3. Sounds like you’ve decided what to do, if not when to do it...

  4. yeah i think waiting may be the thing to do
but the weathers got me all gloomy maybe when the better weather comes i will have rekindled my love for it

  5. getting rid now would give me room in the garage over winter for a project of some kind maybe a 90s dub

You will probably change your mind 20 times over between now and spring but waiting while then is the best option

  7. Cover it up for the winter & just charge the battery occasionally. It’s been a s**t year and it’s getting to a lot of folk me included
But when the Sun comes out next year & restrictions ease you will feel different.
Try to sell now & your not going to get a decent price for all the work you’ve put into it.

You could considering upgrading your engine to either a Scooby or more powerful air cooled job, or sell and get a modern vehicle like a T5/6 or similar. Tbh, we sold our 1600 Westy over two years ago now and have no regrets. I still love coming on here but we are getting our T6 panel converted in 2021. If the Bay had been our only hobby it would have been fun to tinker with it but it wasn’t so this way suits us much better. Others have a completely different experience so you will need to make a judgement based on what is right for you and yours.

  13. Do you know what I was going to suggest a Scooby conversion but you beat me to it. I hated the unreliable feeling and need for continual tinkering, since I had the Subaru engine installed I've driven it much more. At the end of the day even with the Subaru engine its not a comfortable vehicle for long journeys so depends on where the OP wants to travel to on a regular basis.

  15. We managed a few trips after lockdown ended earlier this year & the weather was kind to us  it does make a big difference to the experience, that and the satisfaction of getting there and back without a spell on the back of an RAC waggon:rolleyes:

  17. Nice van mate!!
i have played with the idea of a modern polo engine in it nothing daft and thirsty just very trusty and a bit more capable on long runs
the 2.0l type for motor in my other van was awesome but bad on fuel so wouldnt go down that route again

I did think of this for ours, but for us personally, we’d still be putting a modern engine in a vehicle with pretty ancient safety features. When it was just me and Mrs T that wasn’t so much of a concern, with mini Tatty on board it’s a lot different. I feel more confident heading out on the roads, from the point of view of what might happen in a crash, in a 3 year old vehicle rather than a 48 year old one.

  19. i think when set up right the 1600 is a cracking engine but not for the motoways!for me using the old roads to get places is all part of the fun
