You notice I didn't mention him (last seen counting his till in the Embassy club) yes they were on it.
Germany. I was there last week and was thinking how when I was a kid in the 70's/80's Germany was so much more in the national consciousness. So much post-war unease about it, all the comedy stuff like allo allo and fawlty towers, all the football rivalry and penalties, politics and nazi trials. Now it's just a nice place to go on holiday. When I was a kid no one would have dreamed of going there on holiday.
It always was a nice place . When I lived there, visiting Brits doing the hilarious "don't mention the war" thing used to get right on my wick. Used to completely mystify the Germans.
Standing in a phone box with you 2p 's ,but the untility companies guaranteeing picking up the phone straight away....
TV repair men. Public toilets (more than one per town). Policemen on foot patrol. Road sweepers (other than in the city centre) Green shield stamps and books. Milkmen Teenagers from different tribes....I.e. skins, goths, punks, trendies.....most seem to wear grey track suits with their hoods up. The pools. Spot the ball. Newspaper sellers.
I'm going back in September for a proper holiday, any recommendations? I want to drive down and end up in the Munich/Bavaria area.
I used to have one when I worked at Lansing bagnalls. It had their Pegasus horse on the back and I loved it . I think I have it a mate who wanted it.
Anywhere in Bavaria's good, and Munich's great. Take a stroll round Nymphenberg Palace (used to be at the end of my road ) and go down by the river in Pullach, one of my fave places for a beer. If you want to be a real tourist, go to Neuschwannstein - worth a trip. Loads of places. You've made me feel homesick now...
