The first big show casualty?

  1. And no, I'm not talking about Zed's finger. ;)

I just heard that British Volkswagen Festival has bit the dust - they're not doing one in 2013. :(

I have to say, I'm not entirely surprised based on the fact that it hasn't been the best attended of the established shows for a number of years - we went last in 2010 and it was "chilled out" compared to the other show that uses the 3 counties showground, Vanfest. In a way that was good for us, we really enjoyed it, but I could see that the low attendance wasn't good.

The thing that strikes me now is this shows the swing over towards campers in the show calendar now - BVF was a show for all VWs, not just campers, and the first time I went was with Club Polo. New shows that have come along are focused on the vans. This is good for vans, but what about the rest?

    Thoughts?

  2. the non camping is one reason i gave up going to most mini shows

4 hours in the car 2 hours looking around and 4 hours home wasn't much fun

at least a show based around campers the distance to the show seems more worth while

4 hours to the show best part of 2 days there followed by 4 hours home

too many shows nowadays unfortunately, i tend to restrict myself to a few smaller ones and tlb meets, they all tend to be the same imo

  6. We have a great show up north near Leeds called VW Festival (imaginative i know lol). But it caters for all things VW from your spilt screens right up to R32's and polos. I can see why a lot of shows go towards vans, but at the same time it can get a bit dull looking at row after row of vans. I prefer a good mixture of classic vw's right up to golfs with wheels to big to turn corners.

  7. I stopped going to the vast majority of shows a few years ago.... I was just getting quite sick of them all...

My usual shows now are dubfreeze... can get there in 3hrs-ish, so not too bad for a 1 dayer... There's a couple round newcastle way that I've not made it to yet... will do those next year

And the other I like going to is volksworld show... not too bad for me, as I've quite a few friends I can stay with down in the big smoke!!
