The cost of a bay

  1. 2 shrooms since, or vans?

Sadly I know exactly how much mine is costing me. I won’t make that publicly known until it’s finished.
Mine came with eye-catching bling and comfort upgrades, plus all new camping equipment (fridge, cooker etc)...1000miles on a rebuilt engine and mostly new panels plus paint job.
Sadly, everything that isn’t on that small list was/is absolute rubbish!!

  4. T6s are latest thing and prices are crazy, had ours nearly 3 years bought as a panel van, fitted out as a kombi but if we convert with roof and bed for £4k we can advertise for £5k more than we paid initially and done 60k in it. But they are still basically an overpriced builders van.

  5. One of the biggest expenses I've incurred over my 22 years of ownership is without doubt storage. I kept it in a private, then council lock-up garage for at least 15 of those years, before then it was the parents drive and now she's in her own garage at home with me. If it wasn't for all that rent, I can honestly say I don't think I've spent more than £5-6k over the 22 years, including the original £1200 purchase price! But then mine's not been restored as such and I've never let anyone else even so much as touch it with a spanner (excluding rare help from my brother) - apart from having the case align bored (by L.P. of all people), ball joints pressed in (I'd removed the arms) and having the front wheel alignment set up.

  6. Indeed I used to shell out £130 a month for storage as well

  7. Wow! The council lock-up rent was getting silly towards the end, seemed to go up every few months and was nearing £50 pcm by the time I decided enough was enough but it was a case of out of sight, out of mind at the time. I wouldn't have minded so much if it had been well maintained but the asbestos roof was getting crumbly and leaky and the doors rotten by the time I pulled out. Must admit it was crunch time for the van, I hadn't moved it in 8 years and either I would have to clear my garage at home and somehow squeeze it in or it would have to go. Thankfully I went with the former and we've fallen back in love and now she doesn't cost me anything, she's definitely here to stay.

  8. Our biggest non-purchase expense (so far) was a substantial new shed, to store all the bikes in that were in the garage. Three bikes managed to sneak into the house though for security reasons, and a couple managed to fit back in the garage with the van, which was a pleasent surprise. Then discovered that the garage door was just too low, so had to replace that with a fancy electric one that gave us 5cm more head room. I'm not adding garden buildings or garage doors to our file of expenses though.

  9. I've currently got planning permission under way for a garage that I would not have considered had I not bought a classic vehicle. That's gonna cost me as much as the bus did. But at least it will add value to the house... (and also stop the bus from rotting away on the driveway).

  10. I thought I was going to have to go with a fancy roller/shutter type garage door here too. My drive immediately slopes up from the garage which doesn't help but I just managed to get away with it, the skylight in the Devon roof just brushes the door when the fuel tank's empty! I daren't guess how many times I measured the height of that skylight and the door opening before having the van transported over here! Same as you, had to get a new 10' x 6' shed to accommodate some of the junk that had previously been in the garage.

  14. I had to lift my garage door up 100mm. No cost though.

The baja folder is substantially thinner by comparison!

How true lol. In twenty five years of ownership I've I've probably paid three times what it cost!

  18. Give it time...

I outgrew a folder long ago. My receipts are in a large box file. Why do we do this?

The bay definitely needs a box now.

The bay or the bills for it?
