  1. I'll do a pic later. I need a cheese toastie down the Turkish caff.

For split charge, you'll only need 4mm2 (or 6 if you're feeling sexy), as you're looking at 30A or so, absolute worst case. If you charged at a higher rate, it would knacker your batteries. Same gauge as the B+ lead from the alternator.

Any boggo 30A relay will do. Once with a built-in blade fuseholder would be nice.

Thank you. That was the plan in the diagram - you've put my mind at rest on that one.
I rang Europarts to chase my fuel pump relay which hasn't arrived. They're out of stock!

  3. Also, as you've got Relay Fever ;), don't forget adding them anywhere introduces another potential point of failure. Certainly don't stick them in your ignition circuit, unless you want your engine to go out while you're overtaking a truck in the rain

  4. I probably had the last one ;).

  5. Here y'go. Might make some sense. 2mm2 cable will prob do from "30" terminal.

I made a bijou loom-ette to go in the engine room...

How meaty does the remote starter switch need to be? Definitely wiring that in.

Couldn't have done this loom without all the input from you guys :)

Carries about 16-20 amps for short periods. So 2.5mm2 will do.. mine is sneakily disguised as a bit of wire joined by a bullet connector which just happens to be joined near the battery.. pull the male bullet out of the connector and place on battery positive with the ignition in run to crank.

    Always fitted but not obvious.

  11. With the relay in place, only a few tens of milliamps, as it's just operating the relay coil. It's just connected in parallel with the ignition switch. So pushbutton could be anything. Quite handy, as you can crank the starter for eg compression testing without the ignition on.

A small fluff I made on my loom-ette is that the relay mounts to the van, and the relay socket plugs into it. Would've been better to use a relay socket that mounts to the van, with the relay just plopped on top of it.

I thought as the push button is connecting 85 to 87 that it's bypassing the coil and temporarily reinstating the original circuit, therefore carrying the normal current to crank the starter? No idea what the normal current is.
Should the button not connect 85 to 86?

  15. Nope, maybe not clear on pic. The pushbutton just applies +12V (from 30) to 85 (relay coil drive) behind the ignition switch's back, thus operating the relay. Only current through the PB is the coil current (few tens of milliamps).

Pull-in current for the solenoid is an eye-watering 30-35A

OK I get the principle but it's connected to 85 and 87 isn't it?

  17. 85 and 30. Gah! See the mistake. Back shortly...
