Techenders - September 3rd - 5th 2021

Discussion in 'Shows Events You've Missed unless you went' started by Baysearcher, Aug 19, 2021.

  1. It's all up in the air, at present. I need to talk to the team at work this afternoon.

It could be either car or Bus, or nothing, I really don't know.

I promised Mum a visit Sunday, she doesn't have any home help that day and that will be her "down" day. It's all complicated by her anxiety. I might just drive there and back on Sunday, if I can't square enough work to keep the team busy. But that does seem a bit daft, in a way, I could easily do another visit to her on the way down, if I stop at the field, and that way I would be no bother to Mum, she hates anyone stopping over, even on the drive.

See what the boss/team says later...

  2. Put your mind at ease.
Call in and say hello to your mum on Thursday.
Go back on Sunday for a proper visit.
(Stay at Techenders between those two dates).

I'm sure your team will have plenty of things to fill their time at work, or will quite happily enjoy an easy day or two!

  3. You got it, Paul, that was what I was thinking, in order of preference, visit her Thursday then Sunday, or Friday then Sunday, or just Sunday in a single drive, if I can't get time off.

Obviously, it's all a bit unexpected work-wise and I'm just back from two 4 day weeks with another 4 day week planned next week to go to a festival

    Marmite happens, I guess....

  4. Family before work.

I'm sure you are there for your employer (staying late, being flexible to meet work deadlines etc), now they need to be there for you.

  5. Very true.

I think/hope they will be flexible, but, to be honest, I am completely unprepared, I have no food in (easy enough to sort), the Bus is filthy (not that it matters much) and I have nothing packed (better get my washing on). A complete SNAFU

There's a Lidl about 4 miles up the road, that's where I'm going once I've unpacked as there's no room for food in my panniers due to the all the warm clothing and bedding I need to take!

Weeeeell .... I'm only there for a couple of hours in the day, so .......
But if you think I should announce myself anyway?

Yes you should announce yourself. You need a big PA system (or Ozziedog's sound system) and tell all  :D

  13. That's good to know, thanks, Paul, I also found a Sainsbury's about 10 mins away a few years ago

  15. Thanks all, but I now need to chat with Mum to find out how she is about this, she doesn't like surprises, she likes routine, that's part of the problem. Equally, no point in suggesting two visits, if I couldn't get time off, that might raise her hopes up unnecessarily.

Anyway, as you predicted @paulcalf, work are fine about the time off :hattip:

I will be setting off in the wrong direction tomorrow morning, loaded a minimal set of gear this time. Should be there sometime on Friday though, after taking the Head of the Valleys road across South Wales then as much of the Fosse Way as I can manage. . .
