Advice please re the removable rear valance on my bay ,the one i remove to allow engine free passage on removal , its got some rust,is holed in places which i have filled and painted , i see an opinion on a.n.other bus site which opinions that if its unboltable its not structural, i could agree with that but back to my question ,if mr mot fella tap tap and taps again at said part and finds my repair work is that grounds for a fail? ta 4 opinions/advice .
Considering the front axle bolts on, I doubt "bolt-on" is the line to draw. Though most removeable valance conversions I've seen are kack, including the one on my first bus, but if it were a problem at MOT time there wouldn't be any.
where you might come unstuck is the DVLA's 8 points system 5 of the points must be for a unmodified monocoque and hacking a big lump of metal off and sticking some bolts on it does change the design fail to score enough points and you will need to register your bay and pass a BIVA test
Up to January this year our inner and outer valance were rotten and we got through 2 mot's. this was all welded though I wasn't aware that late bays had unbolt able ones...(would make engine removal so easy though)
Mini-bungle , that 8 point system you refer to , any more info re that on the web you know of,can refer me 2 ? ive looked at several mot (details off) posts on various sites but that has not been mentioned on same ,and is obviously of interest to me /others, ta.
They don't unless someone thought it a better idea than buying a pair of axle stands and got the grinder out.
I wouldn't worry Steveagain, nobody appears to give a monkeys in reality. There are plenty around just like yours. Take it right off for the MOT- that should fox them.
Yeah, that link I posted is more to do with registering a vehicle... Just bung it in for it's mot, you'll be reet lad
