Not in one hand, I'd struggle with both hands to bend a genuine one that much and the metal cylinders IIRC look more part of the construction and less shiney. But Pickles's look shiney.
well the bloke at c&c says they have to remove the vw logo from anything genuine as vw dont like other people selling theyre stuff. when asked why i could bend it into a right angle in one hand he said theyre meant to be flexible. edit...when i say bend into a right angle in one hand i literally mean that! never mind that other people have purchaseed same item from elsewhere with a vw logo, and are not bendy.
I'm sorry but that sounds like b****** My understanding was that VW did not like their logo on pattern parts as they couldn't control the quality, not genuine ones. I'm sure someone will be along soon to agree or disagree with this.
thinking along the lines of what chad said. a gen vw item should be ok, but a pattern part or a recon part (not reconned by vw) has to have logo removed?
I've recently bought some genuine VW Logo hubcaps and they still have the VW on them - it'd do a fair bit of damage if some **** tried to remove them
Wrong one, its a repro. Pickles showed the correct one, which is the one I got from VWH and you cant bend it and its on my van doing a good job.
These repro parts are a bain. There is a thread on here about Litesteer electric steering and they use a universal joint to replace that awful rubber thing, as part of their kit.
Shouldn't bend like that..my genuine one didn't. Interesting argument saying grind off VW logo as they don't like it Would suggest there wasn't a VW logo there in the first place despite the part number. Came across a few in the past with a VW like part number embossed but made in the Far East (not China) with someone elses logo. My original came from VWH. I'm really surprised that some outlets are seemingly willing to sell such a poor product which operates in a safety critical role...
would you want a 40 year old NOS perished piece of rubber in such a critical part ? most NOS rubber items are shot and brittle which might suggest why the NOS IS STIFFER
I suspect something fishy. The bendiness suggests its a crap repro then,, with embossed part number and " germany", but the real manufacturers logo ground off. At best, dodgy advertising on the website, at worst blatant alteration and lying.
After a recent experience C&C have been on my Marmite list for a few months now and reading that means they'll be staying there..............
A word of warning, when I bought my van the steering was poor. It didnt take me long to see the rubber coupling was twisting aand nearly torn through! I removed the coupling and found it was a very poor repro with a dolphin shape on it. A few more miles I might have lost steering completely. Whatever you do, dont fit that C&C one which is a fake. I mentioned Litesteer and if you cant get the proper rubber coupling, they may be able to help you. If you look at their website they have a good video which shows how it works and how to fit it. I know its not a cheap option, but it will make your van safe to drive.
I'm only just back from the hospital @volkswombat I'll have a look later to see if I can bend it, hopefully I won't break it though I couldn't quite make it out does yours have the same part number on it? here's the other side of mine.
When you do bend them, if you see the rubber parting company with the metal sleeves, that's a bad sign.
