One of the questions I ask my pupils is "why do they have the white circle with the black line on and not just simple 60 or 70 signs like all the other speed limit signs?" You would expect the 17 year olds to have trouble answering that question but I am constantly amazed when they admit that they asked their Mum and Dad and they didn't know either.
i honestly thought the white circle with black line "national speed limit" meant 60mph, i didn't realise you could go 70mph on a dual carriageway, i always wondered why it didn't just say 60mph, spoke to my brother who has driven work vans for years and he said he didn't realise either and can't believe he never got done, i guess in the past it's not been as technologically advanced to know but now with anpr the database will tell them the tax class? seems daft that my camper can officially go faster than my caddy yet is 31 years older and has no abs etc......
@rickyrooo1 I can't believe how many people don't know you can drive a car at 70 on a dual carriageway. It's obvious every time I pass speed camera and see them all slowing down while I whizz past.
That's because although car technology has improved vastly over the last few decades, the speed of human reaction hasn't. In an over populated country like ours, 70 is fast enough.
I'm sorry, but I fail to see how you can say your wife is a good driver if your attempts to restrict her to 80mph fail. Or is it just me
I am aware of the 60 limit whilst in my work van and like most I ignore it, have done for 20+ years. Whizzed past plenty of mobile units and I've never had a problem. My brother in law has been stopped in his van once and this fact was pointed out to him when he was pushing nearer 75mph. He was sent on his way with a friendly warning. It's just another rule the police don't have time to enforce. Now if it was done via ANPR and linked to taxation class and just dropped through my door on a weekly basis, I'd soon slow down!
it was meant as a bit tounge in cheek. but in thirty years of driving she has never had an accident or caused one, never had any points on her licence or been stopped by the police. as a ex driving instructor i am aware she drives faster than me but never in built up areas and is allways aware of what is happening ahead and behind, is more observant while driving than most people on the road. i would say 90% of people these days would fail the driving test and we all have faults weather its not indicating or just driving with fog lights on all the time, or worst of all sitting in the middle lane for the next 20 miles doing 6omph
