  2. If its noisy and you havent put it on, wonder whether you could do it from underneath? (I have belly pans on mine so its possible). Whether this is a good idea am sure others could comment!

personally I am going to put some on (at least get some coverage!), rather than take the floor back up

    :)

  4. so, nearly finished the dampening and good start made on the fiddly bits for the foam. the supposedly CLOSED CELL foam that doesn't soak up water.

imagine my horror as i've just picked up a piece on mum n dad's drive that is SODDEN. yes, it's been raining, but it shouldn't hold water, surely???

£140 worth of stuff that will cause more problems than it solves? am gutted. I asked for closed cell with adhesive backing - he sent me this and now worried it's useless, i've wasted time and money and it'll hold up the interior work, again! :(

That's a bummer, but just as well you found out now!
Closed cell should definitely NOT soak up water - you're right there.

  6. that's a real pain in the arse!

Where did you get it from?

  10. it floats if you leave it in but give it a squish and it soaks in some water.

  11. Can you post a pic of the foam? See if we got the same...

  13. finally got a response from the foam supplier. he states that the foam "appears to absorb water around the edges" but in his tests did not soak up any of the 1litre of water.

i'm afraid the "appearance of absorbing water" IS absorbing (you can squeeze the water out) and not an optical illusion.

The only way to ensure it doesn't absorb water/moisture is to tape all edges (time consuming and costly given the amount the foam cost!).

I wish i'd spent the money on foil backed camping mats now; a LOT cheaper and more effective (if they don't hold water, even around the edges). :(

  15. Looks like the sticky bitumen stuff that some people use for sound deadening. Available from builders merchants. But I could be wrong(normally am).
