I'm in the attic/study hate to think how hot it is in the lounge with the log burner.
I found the thermostat on 14 so knock it down to a healthy 10

Fingers crossed for better weather soon

  14. Wrap your butane bottle up in a sleeping bag before you set off
It normally helps to keep the pressure up enough for an evening meal and for breakfast the next day
If its very cold fill a hot water bottle with boiling water and put it next to the butane bottle and wrap the sleeping bag back round it
Its a bit of a faff but keeps you cooking on gas:thumbsup:
Once that bottles ran out swap to a propane bottle and regulator

  15. Weve not had the heating on since febuary
Its oil fired and were using the dregs in the tank
So were using the oil for hot baths and just using the open fire for warmth

When me and the mrs first got together and lived in the dales i remember having frozen water in the sink in the morning and nowt coming out of the tap as the pipes were frozen

I used to brush my teeth from a cup of water that was boiled at the same time i made my morning brew

    Oil baths?

That must be the reason for your youthful complexion :D

  17. Your a funny man

However i can tell you i spent years working on fast jets and mostly soaked in kerosene
Or avtur as fast jet fuel is called it doesent help your skin at all
    Dermatitus was a commong occurance

The amount i drained out of wing tanks during after flight servicing during my service could have kept us warm for life

Kerosene, heating oil, avtur its all the same stuff

  18. Thanks Para - will try the hot water bottle !

And..used to live in Hunmanby in East Yorkshire old chalk brick cottage - one cold winter the quilt atop of our bed cracked with frost for two weeks - I kid you not!

  19. Its modern life dude people aint used to coping and getting by thats all

Modern humans will evolve there fingers and mind to use an i phone without even looking but very few will know how to make fire without matches or a lighter
I met a lass a while ago that couldent even light a match and her mum drops off her complete food for the week in frozen plastic tubs with instructions taped to the top of each tub so she knows how long to microwave it for

To give her her dues she wanted to learn everything and anything about backwoods living and ive since heard shes keeping chickens

  20. I'm just fed up with it. Last year...the rain..........oh, the rain. I sometimes wonder why i've got a van or a bike at all. Mabey a helecopter would fare better
