  1. What do you think is best installation 1600 1700 1800 and 2000 in a van

  2. Depends upon weight

    I'm out too :D

But on behalf of Gusbus, the 1911 type 4 :hattip:

  6. I would say due to innovation and improvement over the years the 2000 would be the winner as more horses means less strain.
However looking at them today and weighing up the availability and price of spares you would probably go for a type 1 motor as being more popular

2 litre type 4. Torque + quiet. Keeps up with traffic and you can actually converse with other occupants

  8. Hmm like anything else, my 87 T25 112bhp 2.1 lt goes like a train compared to my 71 1600, no comparison really it is what it is when it was made, otherwise stick a different motor in and have a frankenbus

The 1500 'S' was a sure favourite of mine.
Not suitable for a bus but a very good in the notchback. Would love to own one now.

  10. thanks for that :)

tbh I only know about the 1600 engine
    I’m just fishing ... let’s say I’m looking at a van and it has a funny looking engine a 1979 2ltr
    Is that good
    No I haven’t got any pictures :)

    2ltr type 4 perhaps?

They are a really good reliable motor, nothing wrong at all with them simply parts supply is limited.

I wouldn't be put off its the rest of the bus which may need work :)

  12. Thank you :)

Nice summing up of nearly 2 decades of development I’d say, performance wise. Sounds like the earlier motors are easier to remove and cheaper to repair though

  18. I agree
    Comfort zone :)

  19. Type 1, 1500 SP had a nice linear torque curve. Type 4 2ltr useful power, but the 1.8ltr felt smoother.

  20. The size and weight of the van really should have at least a 2L maybe a 2.5.
