A bit more info i have found that may match the fact on the m code decoder it says westfaila under the paint codes Busses produced for a special purpose often don't have the standard paint color codes. They have a 'Sonderlackierung', which means they have a special paint color. Examples of such vehicles are: Westfalia campmobiles, Army vehicles, Fire Trucks and German mail vehicles. They have a code starting with a '5' or a '9' in most cases. For example: '9135' stands for 'postgelb' ('Mail Yellow') a color used exclusively for the 'Deutsche Bundespost' (German Mail). It's not clear why VW used special paint codes for Westfalia campmobiles. The colors on these busses are actually standardcolors, but are indicated by a special code.
My Westy was Jaffa from the factory, resprayed 2011 with the L90D upper half but the interior still has the original Jaffa.
@matty, your m-code is almost identical to mine aprt from having 123 - unparasited engine and radio supression. What's an unparasited engine? Mine's a Devon.
Even google doesn't know what unparasited means, though someone on samba guessed it could mean it didn't have smog equipment. Mine is earlier than Matty's (Oct 73 planned build date) so possibly none had smog stuff then so it didn't need differentiating. That sort of makes sense?
So we can disengage the whole westy thing then, that's good news My cert has some extra gubbins about roof and the SO73 thing...but then it is a westy.
Not quite. Matty's westy thing didn't come from the M-Plate, it was on his birth certificate and I don't have one of those to compare. But I'm with Rickyroo, they don't have proper records so just make stuff up or perhaps fill in boxes like we do on the decoder and accidentally left in a code from a westy they did previously that should have been blank.
I'll just say it again but SO73 is a westie. I don't doubt they occasionally make mistakes. I know they don't make the details on your birth certificates up.
