Smell of fuel since fitting dells (type 4)

  1. Could I take this oportunity to say Bazinga!
    Thanks

  2. I need to take an opportunity to go the garage...I've run out of Baccy:eek:

  3. I have a similar yen which will result in me staying there for a while!

  4. Anyway....I'm mid waffle....my ultimate job would be an instrument maker....because the level of involvement and skill required to make a top class instrument can only be acquired by doing....the finished product is truly appreciated for its qualities by a musician who recognizes its true value (not monetary)...and an audience doesn't need to be told its a good instrument played by a great player...they just know...it cuts through all the BS.
Don't really know why I'm going on about this as it's completely irrelevant...:lol:Maybe it's mild euphoria due to the increased oxygen levels as a result of not having a roll up for over twenty minutes....

  5. 20 - thats almost giving up!

  6. I'm going to have to do the decent thing ....

and rake through my ashtray for dimps....now that's commitment

  7. So to answer your question...it's probably the breather set-up:lol:

  8. Isn't that a bad thing? My carbs sound like the devil gargling when I open it up. It's great.

  9. Yes, because you've not got a choke to richen up the mixture when the engine is cold. It will never run right when stone cold, too much cold metal around to condense the fuel / prevent atomisation / suck the heat out of the burn. With current weather, mine needs coaxing for maybe 30 seconds then it will idle fine on its own.

  10. Youve got big valves and gurgley cam. Mines a bog standard pussy-cat!

  11. I too have recently developed smelly dells. Then I noticed a leak under the nearside cylinder head where the nearside carb appeared to be filling the engine!

I them discovered that the servo pipe was soaked with fuel( and old Servo hose so it had obviously perished)

This happened a couple if times and then stopped. I checked the oil, it is oil and not fuel so whatever the issue is has stopped. I'm going to send mine to the Italian over the winter for a full refurb.
    :)

  12. I have the short type 25 manifolds on my dells and it warms up really quickly. I need 4 or 5 quick depresses of the accelerator them half throttle to fire and it roars into life then warms up and idles very quickly. The colder the weather the better
    :)

  13. Mine sounds like the devil gargling with lions. I'd send them back if they didn't. Roar was twice as loud when if fitted the K+N's

  14. Yep same procedure here but not had any really cold weather yet!

  15. They also work a lot better on the 914 engine which is higher compression than my 'old' 1800 engine. I guess its more squeeze allowing for a quicker bang. Then a nice blow out of the ex-fish zorst.

After the good strong initial suck that is.
    :)

  16. Dicky pleased they worked out .......and fitted (you never know with this homemade stuff)

I have trumpets fitted and to be honest you don`t notice that much difference , they just straighten the incoming air flow .

be interesting when you get the RR results

  17. Hi - when I get a moment will drop you a line, should have done so but wanted to get a few miles in (not in this weather!). Vents fitted a treat! Gone rich on the mains - 135s but not going to mess with this til its on the RR.

  18. Agreed. Induction noise is part of the package, no point without it.

  19. You might find that the change in chokes has made the jetting closer to correct by accident. Worth taking both sets along to the RR as they may be able to advise / try out different combinations.

  20. Been thinking the same myself but have had a play with jetting the 32s and the power is too high up the rev range for comfor and my motor runs out of puff!
