Hard to tell. First three look right, not sure about the RH one. Second pic looks ok - you're still the chap lying in the dust.
Looks completely different from the pic that started this! Have you popped it into position or was it a trick of photography?
Well, I was tempted to get it a wee jiggle Who wouldn't? Does it look ok, now, for the avoidance of doubt? Thanks.
Yes, with the proviso that the one bit that would prove it's sitting on the end of the tube I can't see.
Looks like it is, the spring clip is sitting on the upper lip of what, I assume, is the top of the push rod tube.
Still can't get a bloody oil tight seal, not even with a cork gasket. Can get feeler gauge behind the rocket on spot where the leak is now, so it's not that. Which is the preferred way to bend the springs, inwards or outwards?
Bend the legs inwards - adding to the bend at the corners, don't let the middle part bend. Works for me. Makes them clamp tighter onto the head too
All the new cork gaskets are thinner than the days of old and all 3 of my type 4 engines the covers do contact the head before sealing … .. I have 4mm silicone on one and the others I whittled the covers .. none leak
Cheers @zedders, I cleaned up the cover's inside face lightly with 800 grit wet and dry and used some Hylomar on that face and it seems to be holding I may tighten the spring, as you suggested, at another attempt. I remain unconvinced about the silicone, I will try them again sometime; they definitely do expand with heat.
I noticed mine always end up like that anyway, there's a bent out emergency pressure (but hopefully not oil) release kinda bit that is supposed to be at the top. You can see it on this pic of someone else having gasket problems top left. Zoom in you can see the logo is upside down. While we're rockering, does anyone know what the tab with the hole is for?
Tabs…. Good question. Bent out pressure thing isn’t registering with me at all. I I don’t have them. Therfore it doesn’t matter which way up they go… happy to be corrected!
