That brings back memories! In the days when I had a job I used to catch the stupid o'clock train from Dore and Totley station to Manchester and at dawn I often saw herons leaving their roosts in the woods opposite the station and fly up towards the posh houses on Dore Road. I used to like to imagine them breakfasting on Koi carp in ponds of the nouveau riche of Dore

 

They are never concrete! They look almost lifelike.

Posted a pic of my heron in Chilbolton a while ago. I honestly thought he was dead (or plastic). Just stood stock still for ages. It’s what they do, I think. Not much of a life, is it?
